- Description
- Gov. Kathy Hochul is enacting a first-in-the-nation moratorium on large-scale data centers in New York in order to more closely examine their environmental impact and to create new regulatory standards.
The rise of artificial intelligence has fed a huge demand for data centers, which require massive amounts of energy and water to cool computer servers. They’ve also sparked a backlash in local communities across the country, in part due to concerns they will drive up utility costs.
“I refuse to let those costs be passed on to New Yorkers,” Hochul said.

- According to a new study by the city Department of Transportation, parking availability — both inside and outside the Congestion Relief Zone — remained largely unchanged after congestion pricing was implemented compared to before. The study, which used human, stationary and mobile cameras to collect hundreds of thousands of car movements, found drivers did not park on the street outside the zone and take transit or walk into the zone to avoid the toll. It also found that on-street parking continues to be scarce.

"We know how this organism is transmitted. We know how it's not transmitted. We know how to detect it, diagnose it. We know how to treat it. We know who's more susceptible to it," she added.

Kathy Hochul and state Attorney Letitia James are counting their winnings Wednesday after a federal judge handed them a victory over the prediction market company Kalshi, saying it’s offering unlicensed sports gambling. Kalshi is pushing back, but some experts say the ruling could have a chilling effect on this kind of prediction market that’s largely been unregulated under the Trump administration. The company allows people to bet on almost everything, from the outcome of sporting events to political contests.

- Description
- Is labor union influence in New York shifting? Recent elections have raised new questions about the political value of a major labor union endorsement. Andrew Cuomo secured backing from many prominent unions in the 2025 mayoral primary but lost to Zohran Mamdani, while Antonio Reynoso fell to Claire Valdez in a congressional race despite broad labor support.
NY1 statehouse reporter Bernadette Hogan joined Errol to examine what a union endorsement means for candidates in 2026. They discussed how an endorsement’s value depends on more than a logo: unions must invest money, mobilize members, and build a real turnout operation for their support to matter. The conversation also explored the union-backed Working Families Party, its tensions with the Democratic Socialists of America, and its challenge of maintaining ballot status while deciding whether to align with Governor Kathy Hochul in this November's election. They also considered Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s high popularity...

The Department of Sanitation will bring back stickers originally banned in 2012 because of a recently passed law. A $65 ticket is the current price for not moving a car for street cleaning. In addition, a proposed bill in Albany would allow the city to use automated camera enforcement as they do for cars parked in bus lanes.
