- On April 5, 2019, the radar at NWS El Paso had the most visible part -- the dome -- taken off for a pedestal replacement. The radar antenna sits on top of the pedestal, making the pedestal one of the most critical components of the radar. This upgrade is part of the NWS Radar Service Life Extension Program, and it's the first time the dome has come off the radar since it began service in 1996.
