A video on social media shows buildings decimated in Beirut, with fires raging on street level and smoke billowing into the sky.
In a statement on Telegram, the IDF said the bombings mark “the largest strike carried out” yet in Beirut, the Bekaa valley and southern Lebanon since the start of the current operation.
Local reports say around 200 people have been killed, including many civilians, but the Lebanese health ministry is yet to corroborate numbers.
In a southern suburb of Beirut, a strike on a supermarket led to loud calls for blood donations after multiple people were wounded, reported Libranews.
The IDF said it had completed “a wide-scale wave of strikes targeting Hezbollah command centres and military sites”.

Reform leader Nigel Farage became irritable and sarcastic when asked if he would say sorry to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire for insensitive comments made by a senior member of his party.
Former Reform housing spokesperson Simon Dudley said that while the 2017 disaster, which killed 72 people, was a tragedy, “everyone dies in the end”. He made the comments while criticising safety regulations brought in after the fire.
Dudley was removed from his position over the comments but does not appear to have been expelled from the party.

- Sirens blared on Thursday as a projectile struck the Israeli city of Petah Tikva, about 10km east of Tel Aviv.
No initial injuries were reported. The Times of Israel reported that an Iranian ballistic missile had caused damage to industrial buildings and left a large crater in the ground.
The shockwave heavily damaged nearby buildings, it added.
