- Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said she wants to annex McCarran Blvd. into the city's jurisdiction after a rash of deadly crashes including several near the intersection with Plumb Lane.
The desire to take responsibility for McCarran Blvd. from the state comes after a renewed push from concerned neighbors, who petitioned the mayor following the most recent deadly crash in December.
Their efforts have resulted in a McCarran Blvd. safety presentation and agenda item at the next Reno City Council meeting, which is set for Wednesday.
The danger on McCarran Blvd. reached a tipping point for residents at the end of 2024, when one person was killed in a crash on Dec. 7. It was the second deadly crash at that intersection that year — there was also a deadly motorcycle crash there last June.
