On Tuesday morning, members of the media got a first peek at Silver Belle, the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree—a towering 53-foot Red Fir that was harvested over the weekend from Mt. Rose Highway.
For now, Silver Belle is resting up in a hangar on base, soaking up the high desert sunshine (and quite a bit of water) before making her big debut at the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City this Saturday.
“This red fir named Silver Belle from Nevada is a symbol of our gift to the nation’s capital,” said project manager Duncan Leao with the U.S. Forest Service. “It’s definitely a chance of a lifetime, not only for our staff, but for Nevadans. Robinson, who retired in 2024 after nearly 30 years of service, was arrested Oct. 16 for allegedly agreeing to pay to meet what he thought was a 17-year-old girl — who turned out to be an undercover officer with the Regional HEAT Unit.
Nance says the arrest has “deeply impacted morale” and shaken public confidence in the department.
