- The Windhoek High Court has dismissed Michael Amushelelo’s bid to stop the installation of speed humps and to have Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi remove them from the Western Bypass.
Judge Gabriel Komboni delivered the ruling on Friday, dismissing Amushelelo’s application. The judge said the full written judgement will be made available before the end of the day.
Amushelelo approached the High Court after Nekundi ordered the installation, arguing the measures should be set aside. During the proceedings, the minister defended the decision, saying Namibia does not have highways as defined in law and that the road in question falls under the country’s road network where traffic-calming measures may be introduced.
Amushelelo has indicated he will appeal the decision.

Dr. Cloete stated that one of his priorities over the past three years was rebuilding the association after the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw membership decline and training activities come to a standstill.
Under his leadership, the association revived training workshops, technical tours, and member engagement initiatives, resulting in a 30% increase in membership and improved financial stability.
Dr. Cloete pointed out that the transition of engineering graduates into the job market remains a concern, with many struggling to secure emplo...

- Description
- Unemployment has forced many residents of Omatako village in the Tsumkwe West Constituency to rely on selling firewood as their primary source of income to support their families.
Omatako is one of the villages in the constituency, pressed by unemployment.
The work is labour-intensive.
Residents cut down trees, collect the wood and transport it over long distances before it can be sold.
The exercise takes between three and four months of continuous work to produce a single truckload of firewood.
Firewood of about 900 kilogrammes sells for about N$500.
Although the income is low compared to the amount of work involved, residents feel there are only a few opportunities to earn a living.
Eben Haraseb explained.
“It really helps me. I use the money to buy clothes for my children, school supplies, and food for my family. I also use it to buy other household necessities.”

- Description
- As temperatures continue to drop in Windhoek, many people without homes are spending their nights in riverbeds, on sidewalks and in cardboard boxes to protect themselves from the cold.
One local pastor believes more can be done to provide a safe place for people to sleep.
Pastor Kenneth Linno opened a temporary night shelter in Khomasdal that offers a bed, a warm shower and meals for homeless people.
Guests are asked to contribute N$50 per night, although the pastor noted no one will be turned away simply because they cannot afford the fee.
The shelter can accommodate up to 35 people.
Linno said the idea came after seeing many people sleeping outside in riverbeds and under bridges during the winter months.
"Instead of just giving soup or something, let's be more involved. So I proposed to the church with the small space available to open a temporary shelter for people to sleep.”
He explained th...

- Description
- The Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, revealed that a budget of N$44 million has been allocated for the procurement of textbooks for the 2026/2027 financial year.
This was in response to IPC MP Abednego Hishoono, who sought clarity regarding the formula used to determine these allocations.
"Regions are required to conduct a textbook audit to identify areas of need for textbooks, and this exercise is carried out on an annual basis manually, and each year money is allocated to the regions," said Dr. Steenkamp. "The money is purely for topping up where additional textbooks and learning support materials are required. Each region, having identified the gaps in the textbook needs, will then prioritise how many more textbooks are needed and in which subjects."
Also responding to concerns raised by IPC MP Bertha Ngifikwa regarding the training of teachers in mismatched subjects, the minister stated that ...
