- The Ovaherero people have called for inclusion on matters relating to genocide and reparation.
Various speakers made the call during a "Meanings of Ovaherero and Nama human skulls at the Institute of Anatomy" seminar.
The former president of the Ovaherero Genocide Foundation, Dr. Esther Muimjangue, said there must be a shared understanding on what should happen to the human remains that were returned to Namibia.
"In September 2011, a delegation from Namibia, led by the Namibian government and including representatives from the Royal Nama people, travelled to Berlin to retrieve 20 skulls. However, in 2014, 14 human remains were brought back in secrecy, without the knowledge of the communities. It is crucial for us to reflect on this situation and establish a shared position and understanding. We all recognise that these are the human remains of our ancestors; they must be returned home," she stated, questioning why these remains are not returned to...

Kauapirura said 36 years after independence, the genocide remains scarcely integrated into the national academic curriculum.

"The National Assembly resolved that the Ministry of Education should incorporate genocide studies into the school curriculum, but implementation has been slow and inconsistent. Where genocide is taught, it tends to be brief and often filtered through a lens that prioritises diplomatic sensitivity over historical honesty. - Omafo Private School in the Ohangwena Region has become a beacon of hope for many Angolan children living across the two countries' borders.
The school has gone out of its way to accommodate learners from across the border, who are placed in classes from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to Grade 7.
The school's principal, Grace Shapwa, says out of the school's 378 learners, 68 are Angolan. To accommodate these learners, the school offers Portuguese as a subject to bridge the language barriers and strengthen learning outcomes.
Shapwa highlighted some of the challenges faced by the school, particularly those affecting Angolan learners. Concerns ranged from issues around time, transport and exchange rates.
"If we are starting at seven o'clock, it means it's six. So for them to be able to be on time at school, they have to wake up at five o'clock and cross the border. We have a bus that picks the kids up from the border and brings them...

Theresia Johannes is accused of throwing her 9-month-old twin children, a boy and a girl, into a water pond at Omutundungu Village in the Omusati Region on Saturday with the intention of killing them.
The twins were rescued by a cattle herder who witnessed the incident and intervened.
During her first court appearance, Johannes broke down in tears and appeared unwell.
She told the court she would conduct her own defence.
The case was postponed to the 3rd of September for further investigation.
Following the incident, Omusati Regional Police Commander Commissioner Ismael Basson has appealed to members of the public to seek counselling when they feel emotionally burdened.

- Description
- The National Council (NC) has approved the budget allocation of N$2 billion towards the vote for transport for the 2026/2027 financial year.
MPs contributing to discussions on the budget called on the Ministry of Works and Transport to upgrade roads in various regions, particularly in rural areas, to improve access to government services and promote economic growth.
"There is a long-time procurement lot that is DR-3678. That's the road in Uuvudhiya. The minister needs to budget the construction of this road. Because of the community in this area, they have got difficulty accessing essential services during the rainy season. They also have, sometimes, difficulty accessing the constituency office."
"The Ohangwena region has benefited from the construction of bitumen roads; however, more still needs to be done, especially on the eastern part of the region, where communities are still using bumpy and sandy roads to access essential services, such as s...

- Description
- Namibia's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises sector (MSMEs) is the backbone of the national economy, but many businesses remain constrained by limited access to markets, finance, and structured development support.
Thus, the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), in collaboration with the Namibia Investment and Finance Academy (NIFA), signed a three-year Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).
This agreement is aimed at accelerating the structured graduation of Namibian MSMEs and unlocking meaningful employment pathways for interns and graduates.
Thousands of graduates continue to face barriers to meaningful work experience and private sector entry.
In an effort to find solutions to unemployment and get graduates off the street, the two organisations signed the MoA.
This directly addresses both challenges by combining enterprise development with practical employment pathways to create a single, integrated pipeline that...

- Description
- Members of the National Council (NC) have urged the government to settle outstanding payments owed to veterans who are still alive, as many reached advanced age.
The MPs have also proposed an amendment to the current law regarding the transfer of inheritance of the projects.
"I propose the policy should be changed so that if a veteran happens to pass on without getting this benefit, their spouses or their dependants, let's say their dependants, must inherit this project grant if they were already approved. There's nothing wrong. It will not cause any harm. So that the people that were left behind can also be able to have a good livelihood."
"I therefore request the responsible office to clarify the way forward regarding the payment of all outstanding approved projects and to indicate how the ministry and the line office intend to assist surviving spouses and their dependants to access these funds without unnecessary delays. - Description
- Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources, Tobie Aupindi is advocating for local processing of resources and genuine Namibian ownership instead of what he describes as "rent-a-black-face" empowerment deals.
Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources gathered in Swakopmund for a capacity-building workshop.
At the opening, the chairperson, Dr Tobie Aupindi, called for urgent reforms and action in the country's mining and energy sectors.
He criticised the export of raw materials while jobs and profits are created elsewhere.
"Namibia must transition from being merely a supplier of raw materials to becoming a producer of finished and semi-finished products. But we can't always just be talking about this. These are policies that bureaucrats in government, directors, commissioners, ministers, and executive directors have. But what is lacking is the action."
He also called ...
