- May 20, 2011 Early this morning at about 3:45 a.m. the Modesto Fire Department was dispatched to the scene of a huge sing vehicle car crash into a tree. The Modesto Police officers arrived on the scene within seconds and advised the fire department to roll additional personnel as the passenger of the vehicle was pinned in the car.
It took the Modesto Fire Department more than 30 minutes to free the 21 year man from the crushed vehicle and altho the car was completely destroyed the man survived the crash and it appears at this point that he will make a full recovery.
The driver of the vehicle a 21 year old female reported only suffered minor injuries.

- May 17, 2011 At 3:30 a.m. this morning this morning gunfire broke out on Chrysler Drive near Prescott Road. Modesto Police were already at the scene so when the shooting started the police were able to corner the suspect vehicle quickly.
However, the suspects still tried to elude the police leading police to ram the get away vehicle several times with several different police cars.
The short chase came to an end at the intersection of Prescott and Chrysler when a Modesto Police Officer T-boned the suspect vehicle.
3 suspects were taken into custody.
It was reported that 4 Police cars were wrecked in the pursuit however Modesto News .org only saw two of them. The other two were drivable and received minor damage. No Police officers were hurt and no one was hit by the gunfire.

- May 15, 2011 Early this morning the Modesto Fire Department, the Modesto Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a vehicle that had run off the Briggsmore overpass in Modesto, California.
When E.M.S. arrived they found that the driver of the vehicle had been ejected and was dead upon their arrival.
A lot of details in crash are still unclear at this time. The crash is still under investigation by the Modesto Police Department.

- May 12, 2011 Early this morning at 2:15 a.m. the Modesto Police Department was called to the 7-11 on the corner of McHenry Ave. and Morris Ave. for reports of a fight in the parking lot.
Modesto police arrived to find one man lying unconscious in the parking lot in front of the store and another man with facial lacerations who had been beaten as well.
Witnesses told police that they had seen 4 men in a white 4-door sedan attack the 2 men after words were exchanged involving a girl who was with the 4 men.
The 4 men left the scene before police arrived and are still at large.

- May 13, 2011 Yet another vacant house caught fire last night in Modesto, California.
This house located on Hatch Rd. just west of Highway 99 caught fire around 9:30 p.m. last night. There have been several fires at this same location over the past several months and appears to be a result of vandalism.
Hatch Rd. was such down for more than an hour while Modesto firefighters brought the fire under control.

- May 12, 2011 Early this morning at approximately 1:00 a.m. a Modesto Police office noticed a car matching the description of a vehicle wanted in connection to a drive by shooting driving in the area of Maze Blvd. near Highway 99.
The officer called for back-up and when the police attempted a felony stop on the vehicle 2 of the 4 occupants ran from the vehicle. The other 2 occupants immediately surrendered to police.
A manhunt was quickly underway and the surrounding area was searched extensively. One of the suspects surrendered to police near the Maze Blvd., Highway 99 exit. The other suspect eluded capture and is still at large.
After searching the car a handgun was found in the vehicle.
The investigation is still underway and the Modesto Police Department is remaining tight lipped about many of the details regarding this case.

- May 11, 2011 Today in Stanislaus County the first big vegetation fire of the season broke out on Rohde Road near Mitchell Rd. in Ceres, California.
The fire started near the Highway 99 then jumped to a field across the street. The fire then worked it's way into the storage yard of a commercial building catching wood and other debris of fire. The smoke could be scene for miles.
The Ceres Fire Department, the Turlock Rural Fire Department, and the Keyes Fire Department were there on scene to battle the blaze.

- May 11, 2011 Yesterday at approximately 6:00 p.m. a foot pursuit broke out at the corner of Coffee Rd. and Norwegian Ave.

Police told Modesto News .org that a member of their S.G.U. or Street Gang Unit was driving down Norwegian Ave. when he recognized a man on foot who was wanted by police for auto theft charges.
As soon as the fugitive saw that the officer had noticed him he began running northbound on Coffee Rd. thru parking lots.
The suspect then jumped a fence into another parking lot. But, with the police closing in he decided to surrender without further incident.
He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail.

- May 8, 2011 Last night at approximately 12:30 a.m. Modesto police were called to the 1400 block of Sunrise Ave. for reports of a man on the roof of a residence. They responded to the scene quickly and were able to catch a man on the roof of a house who apparently was attempting to steal a satellite dish.
The suspect who is currently on parole was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail prowling and a parole violation.

- May 7, 2011 Early this morning a fire broke out at a home on E. Roseburg Ave. just east of Sunrise Ave. where the road dead ends. The fire was huge a blaze that sent black smoke billowing through the area.
Modesto fire crews got the call of a working structure fire at about 2:30 a.m. and responded to the scene finding the a house which appeared to be vacant, fully involved with heavy smoke and flames showing to the rear and right of the building.
Firefighters had to take a defensive position when electrical lines started arcing but, were still able to bring the blaze under control without any injuries or damage to neighboring houses.

- May 7, 2011 Early this morning the Circle K gas station on Carpenter Rd. near the Briggsmore overpass was robbed at gun point.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. a hispanic male standing at 6'2'' tall with a slender build walked into the gas station. He was wearing a black sweater with a hood on it, dark blue jeans, and white tennis shoes. He pointed a black revolver at the cashier demanding money. The cashier complied and he fled on foot.
Early reports were that a dark colored Suburban was seen leaving the area just after the robbery but, it was unclear if it was involved.

- Early this morning just before 3 a.m. emergency dispatchers received a 911 call for medical aid at China Gourmet in the Century Center shopping center on Oakdale Rd. and E. Orangeburg Ave.
After medics arrived they could see that they had been dispatched to a crime scene. They immediately called the police. When police arrived they found a man dead inside of the business. Modesto police officers told Modesto News .org off camera that the crime scene is gruesome and that the murder appeared to be brutal.

- May 5, 2011 Yesterday at approximately 6:30 p.m. a Modesto resident returned home to his residence on Dwight Lane to find a man coming out of his house.
The home owner told the man to stay where he was and called the police. Two neighbors soon came to the home owner's aid and the three detained the man without incident until Modesto Police arrived on the scene.
The Modesto Police Department took the man into custody when they arrived.

- Car Crashes Into Natural Gas Line In Modesto, California

- May 2, 2011 Yesterday morning at approximately 4:30 a.m. the California Highway Patrol and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department responded to Finch Rd. near Garner Rd. for reports of a single vehicle collision.
When they arrived they saw that the vehicle had crashed into a natural gas main line and that the dangerous and highly flammable gas was spewing into the air.
The driver of the vehicle had already fled the scene of the crash.
The area was quickly evacuated and Pacific Gas And Electric was called to the scene to cap the leak. The leak continued for over an hour as there was no shut off valve near the leak and PG&E had to dig under the street to seal the line.
Modesto News .org spoke with Craig of Fat Manz Towing who responded to the scene to take custody of the vehicle.

- May 1, 2011 Vacant house fires are fast becoming an epidemic in Modesto, CA. This damage is seen all over town and thousands are feeling the affects of abandoned houses in there neighborhoods.
This house on 1329 Crater Ave. in Modesto is one such property. It burned twice within a weeks time. It caught fire a week ago Saturday at 7:45 p.m. and burned again this saturday at 2:25 a.m. Modesto News .org was at the second fire.
Witnesses to the fire told the Modesto News .org crew that they had seen a white two door Honda Civic continuously parking at the residence that was supposed to be vacant. Several witnesses told us, off camera that they had seen the same car there on the days of the fires as well.

- Apr. 29, 2011 Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire at Evelyn Hanshaw Middle School in south Modesto early Friday morning.
The fire, which charred portions of a portable building on the west side of the school, comes after several acts of vandalism near campus, Battalion Chief Dan Hinshaw said.
Modesto City Schools District spokeswoman Becky Fortuna said several windows have been broken in the area over the past two weeks.
She said a window in the school's cafeteria was shattered several days ago and windows at the nearby Golden Valley Health Center were recently broken.
Firefighters went to the school at 1725 Las Vegas St. about 1:30 a.m. Flames could be seen from one of three portable buildings. Hinshaw said it took about 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which started on the exterior of the building.

The chase started after a woman whom the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department was surveilling noticed them watch her and fled in her vehicle.

Police arrived within minutes and surrounded the house. The juveniles attempted to flee over the back fence of the residence. One was apprehended at the fence line and the other was apprehended after a short search.

- Apr 27, 2011 At 12:47 p.m. the Modesto Fire Department was notified of a working structure fire at 151 Imperial Ave. directly across the street from Modesto Fire Station 10.
Because of the close proximity to the station firefighters began battling the blaze with 1 minute of the original call and brought the fire under control within 4 minutes. However, even with their fast response the damage had been done and 2 units in the complex were destroyed leaving 2 adults and 6 children from 1 unit and 1 adult from the other unit displaced.
The American Red Cross arrived on the scene soon after the fire to offer assistance to the family.

Last night at approximately 7:30 p.m Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department Hughson Police Services responded to a report of a man shot by another man named Juan Perez during an argument. Perez fled the scene before deputies arrived.
While deputies were at that crime investigating the shooting another call came into police reporting that Juan Perez was standing in-front of his own residence firing a hand gun into the air.
Stanislaus County Sheriffs responded to that scene and set up a perimeter. The Stanislaus County Sheriff's SWAT team was called out along with hostage negotiators.
After about 4 hours Perez surrendered without further incident.
Perez was transported to the Stanislaus County Jail and is now facing several felony charges.

- A video news story first broadcast on 5-20-11 about two armed robberies in Modesto, California on the same day.
A man riding a bicycle through a Wienerschnitzel drive-thru robbed the restaurant at gunpoint Wednesday evening.
The suspect entered the drive-thru at 204 McHenry Ave. shortly after 6 p.m., brandishing a handgun and demanding money, according to Modesto Police Sgt. Rick Armendariz. The robber pedaled away with an undisclosed amount cash.
About 40 minutes later, officers found the suspect's mountain bike, gun and some clothing in a nearby alley, Armendariz said. The gun was a replica of a 9 mm handgun.
