- Lisa Nandy SPEAKS OUT on backing Burnham & why voters are DESERTING Labour ahead of by-election

- Description
- Speaking on The Northern Agenda podcast, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy tells Rob Parsons why now is the time for the North of England to host the Olympic Games.
And she sets out why she's desperate to reform the UK honours system to make sure community heroes outside London and the South East get the recognition they deserve.
An ally of Andy Burnham, the Labour Minister defended Keir Starmer's government and said if she didn't believe in what it was doing she'd have quit like Health Secretary Wes Streeting or Defence Secretary John Healey.
But she said Labour had only had two years to turn round decades of challenges for towns like those in her patch which started with deindustralisation.
And she said voters have deserted Labour in areas like Makerfield as they're "not hearing enough" anger from the Government about the problems facing the country.

Sir Keir Starmer has announced sweeping online reforms in the UK including a full ban on under-16s accessing social media platforms.
In what the Prime Minister called "big moment for the country", the announcement was made at a Downing Street press conference today (Monday 15).
Speaking to a room of campaigners and reporters, Starmer said it was clear to him that “a full ban is the right choice”. Adding: “This is not something I do lightly, and I will not present it as cost-free, as if social media has brought no benefits to young people, because clearly that is wrong.

- The Prime Minister should resign if he cannot prove that the long-delayed defence investment plan will “protect our national security”, Kemi Badenoch has said.
The Conservative leader also offered to lend the votes of her MPs to Sir Keir Starmer, or another prime minister should he lose a leadership challenge, to pass welfare cuts through Parliament to pay for defence hikes.
Plans to increase defence spending over the long-term were thrown into disarray last week when John Healey resigned as defence secretary.
Mr Healey chose to leave the Government because the defence investment plan (Dip) fell short of what was asked for by defence chiefs.
