- A family is living in fear after masked men attacked their car twice in two months. The mum of the family, who live in Irby, was shocked when she woke up on the morning of Tuesday April 14 to find two of her car tyres had been slashed.
But that surprise has turned into terror when all of her car tyres were slashed again on Tuesday May 5. In this incident, seen by the ECHO, the masked men can be seen pouring some sort of fluid over the car before puncturing all four tyres.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed the force has received reports about both incidents. The mum, who asked not to be named, told the ECHO earlier this week she fears these are targeted attacks but has no idea why anyone would want to harm her.

With his party surging in councils across the country, Reform leader Nigel Farage made a visit to St Helens, where his party looks set to win power, to celebrate the results. But the ECHO asked the national party leader how people in Merseyside can trust his group when someone sharing such vile views like Jay Cooper can be elected under a Reform banner.

Adam Rowson, 26, used Alexis De Naray’s bank card to buy alcohol and scratchcards after savagely beating him and leaving him dead or dying in an abandoned garage in Shrewsbury in June 2025.
Jailing him for life at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday, Judge Avik Mukherjee said Rowson, of no fixed abode, had believed he had killed Mr De Naray when he “callously” used his card and “freely spent his money on anything that pleased you” until he was stopped by the bank.

- People were evacuated from their homes after a suspected bomb was found in Wavertree. Emergency services were called to Nelson Street at the junction of Wellington Road at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, May 6, following reports a mortar shell had been found outside an address.
A force incident manager for Merseyside Police said officers were initially called to reports of a group of youths setting fire to something in a garden at around 6.15pm. However, when crews arrived, no fire was found and further reports suggested the presence of unexploded ordnance.

A gang of burglars broke into fire stations and stole equipment which they then used to smash into cash machines at Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's supermarkets. Identical twins Carl and Lee Kettle joined forces with getaway driver Barry Dillon as they embarked upon a five-year crime spree across the north west and beyond.
The "extremely audacious" £1.3m plot also saw the three-man team steal "high powered" Audis and BMWs from the driveways of homes, vehicles which they then used to speed away from the scenes of their crimes. This resulted in an innocent member of the public being injured in a head-on crash on one occasion.
