- A Jet2 flight from Liverpool John Lennon Airport has landed at Manchester Airport after declaring an emergency. Real-time aviation alert service Squawk reported the flight to Palma de Mallorca Airport declared an emergency this morning, Thursday, August 6.
Squawk posted on X the Boeing 737-800 is issuing a 7700 general emergency alert. The emergency signal was reportedly declared at 12,875 ft on its flight path near Manchester.
According to the Flightradar24 website, the 8am flight changed direction as it flew near Shrewsbury before heading back towards Liverpool. The jet now appears to have landed at Manchester Airport.

Merseyside Police attended around 6.45pm and the man came down from the roof at 8.15pm. A 40-year-old man from New Brighton was arrested on suspicion of a domestic section 47 assault. He was taken into custody for questioning, the force said.

Career drug dealer Zach Graham, 32, has spent years flooding the city of Milton Keynes with drugs, only taking a break from his illicit actions when he has been banged up in prison.

- A four-year-old boy was hit by a car yesterday in Southport. Merseyside Police received a report that a boy had been hit on the Promenade in Southport at around 4.55pm on Monday, August 3.
Emergency services attended and the boy was taken to hospital as a precaution. Craig Alexander Murray, who was in the area at the time, captured footage of an air ambulance landing at King's Gardens nearby but said the child was actually taken away in a standard ambulance.
Craig told the ECHO that there were three police cars in attendance, along with adults with the child.

- Two huge fires broke out on a Huyton primary school playing field in just two days. Firefighters extinguished a 50m x 50m blaze on the playing field surrounding Hope Street Primary School on Sunday night, August 2 - only to be recalled to an even larger inferno yesterday, August 3.
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "At 4.43pm the fire was completely extinguished and crews left the scene."

- A man has been jailed after keeping his dead mother inside a freezer for nearly three years while continuing to receive more than £78,000 of her benefits.
Christopher Phillips, 60, previously admitted preventing the lawful and decent burial of Silvia Phillips, 89, at their home in Porthcawl.
He also pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud, by failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions, as well as Bridgend County Borough Council, that his mother had died, over the same dates.

- An update has been issued on a tragic crash which killed four people in Huyton. Jack Diggle, 23, Ben Dooley, 23, Craig Shackleton-Brady, 26, and Andrew Roberts, 24, were killed in the early hours of Friday, July 24 on Liverpool Road.
The four young men died when the black Cupra Formentor they were travelling in came off the road and crashed into a lamppost. After the crash, hundreds of emotional tributes were paid to the four men who lost their lives. The tree at the scene of the crash became a shrine to the four young men.

- The Grade II-listed building on Clifton Road has lived many lives since it was built in 1845. It was originally home to wealthy families and their servants before becoming a Baptist Tabernacle in the late 19th century. By the 1920s, it had been transformed into a Masonic Hall, which it remains today. In recent years, however, the historic building has become known for something altogether different.
Ghost hunters regularly visit Clifton Hall, with paranormal investigation events helping to raise money towards the upkeep of the much-loved building. While hundreds have passed through its doors hoping to experience something unexplained, the hall's caretaker, Jeff Forshaw, an IT consultant from Bebington who joined as a volunteer in 2023, said some of the strangest moments have occurred while simply carrying out his job.
