- BELL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - A Central Texas family is asking for help to bring their mother and grandmother home to Central Texas after the women suffered a medical emergency.
The mother is stranded at a hospital in Mexico after suffering a severe traumatic brain injury that left her in a coma.
Enriqueta Estrella was at the airport, flying home on Christmas eve, when her daughter says she fell on an escalator, hitting her head multiple times on the steps.

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - Authorities say a man was shot and killed after driving his vehicle through the Killeen Mall, injuring multiple people Saturday night.
Texas DPS Sgt. Bryan Washko said the suspect drove through the front doors of JC Penny at the mall, running over multiple people in the process.
“The trooper and Killeen police officer continued on foot after the vehicle which was driving through the store running people over,” Washko said. “He traveled several hundred yards.”
Four people were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to severe and a fifth person took themselves to the hospital, according to Washko.

In his announcement, Patrick uses words like “unsafe” and “unregulated” to describe THC products being sold.
Patrick is working with Senator Charles Perry from Lubbock to pass Senate Bill Three, which would ban all THC products that he says has been targeting Texas children and exposes them to dangerous THC levels.
Texas House Representative for District 56, #PatCurry, backs up Patrick, saying that they want to close the loopholes that dispensaries use to legally sell different THC, CBD, and hemp products

The Jackson Family lived at the home about five years and the fire not only destroyed material possessions, but also items with sentimental value and memories.

- CORSICANA, Texas (KWTX) - A Central Texas educator with 30-plus years of experience is calling for change, adding that although she’s angry, she has forgiven the student who blinded her during an attack at school.
Corsicana ISD’s Collins Intermediate Assistant Principal Candra Rogers, 56, was blinded in her left eye in August after a student she was trying to calm down following a fight with another student threw a wooden hanger that hit her eye and knocked it out of its socket.
She hasn’t returned to work since. “I have headaches every single day, every day,” Rogers said. “There are some days I can’t get out of bed.”
This is the first time the career educator has opened up in detail about the disturbing afternoon at school that changed her life forever.

- KEMPNER, Texas (KWTX) - Texas DPS is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that left a woman and a 3-month-old infant dead in Lampasas County Saturday.
Authorities say on Dec. 7, at around 9:40 p.m., 28-year-old Destiny Ramirez, of Huntsville, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound US 190, just west of Kempner.
Ramirez, according to authorities, was driving at an unsafe speed with wet road conditions as she approached a curve and lost control of her vehicle. Ramirez’s parents said she was on her way to a family member’s birthday party. After losing control of the vehicle, authorities say Ramirez crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a guard rail.
Authorities say Ramirez and a 3-month-old infant were not restrained in the vehicle and were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash. Ramirez and the 3-month-old were pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The Woodway City Council approved the Shared Path Project in Dec. 2023, initiating significant changes to Estates Drive. The renovations converted one lane into a biking and walking lane, while another lane was transformed into a turning lane.
50-year Woodway resident, Rayna Kraman, recalled seeing some drivers experience difficulty adjusting to the new road.
“What I saw even today when I came back from HEB, was somebody was in the right lane then all of a sudden they jerked over to the other lane because there wasn’t warning far in advance,” Kraman said.

Michael Huckabee said he’s been living under the Fort Hood Street bridge, and Killeen residents are looking for ways to help him live comfortably.
Some Killeen residents said the growing homeless community is becoming a problem, but instead of complaining about it, some people wanted to take action to help.
Huckabee explained sleeping under the bridge can somewhat be a challenge for him between hearing the echoes of car engines and having no choice but to cuddle with the concrete.
“It gets really hard at times when it gets cold out here, the oud noises from the trucks and cars, stuff like that,” said Huckabee.

Nicholas Jaimes-Hernandez is charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of Monica Aviles and her teenage children, Miguel and Natalie Avila, inside their home.
He is also charged with capital murder in the deaths of Lori Aviles and her daughter Natalie, who lived next door, and with aggravated assault after wounding another victim and firing a round at another.
In order for Jaimes-Hernandez to stand trial, he has to be able to understand what’s happening and communicate with his lawyer, which the court determined today he cannot do.

- HAMILTON, Texas (KWTX) - A local high school senior who has been farming his entire life is overcoming all odds after suffering horrendous burns and losing his arm following a near-fatal farming accident in October.
Braycin Parrish, 17, of Hamilton, is recovering in Parkland Hospital in Dallas with injuries doctors say are the worst they’ve seen anyone survive.
The farmer was injured on October 2 while harvesting peanuts when the buggy on his tractor came in contact with an electrical line shocking him and setting his body on fire.
“He was dead. For how many minutes? Only God knows,” his dad, Blain Parrish, said.

- CLIFTON, Texas (KWTX) - The Clifton community stepped up to support a local police officer while his wife had been hospitalized for over a month.
In Oct, Clifton Police Officer, Trevlyn Winder, brought his wife to Baylor Scott & White Hospital to have her gallbladder removed. Upon the procedure preparation, they were informed the patient, Cydney Winder, could develop pancreatitis during the procedure.
“The surgeon came in and told her she had two stones stuck in her bile duct,” Trevlyn said. “He told us, from that point, there was a chance she could get pancreatitis from the first procedure which would be removing the two gallstones. Well, she did.”
Cydney developed pancreatitis and has been treated for it for over one month.

- McGREGOR, Texas (KWTX) - A Central Texas man who worked for others in the meat industry for 40 years has opened his own meat market to a ton of buzz and he says it’s a dream come true.
Steven Estrada, Sr., 60, of McGregor, is the owner of Old Fashion Meat Market on Main Street in McGregor.
He opened his doors Friday morning and hasn’t had a down moment since as hundreds of happy customers streamed in all day Friday, Saturday and Monday.
“Oh, of course. I am living the dream, I am living the dream here in America, so I thank God for that,” Estrada said. “I really do.”

- BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - Strong wind gusts Monday morning destroyed one business and heavily damaged several others at the Bell County Flea Market in Belton.
The market is located off I-14 and George Wilson Road.
Fire Marshals responded to the scene and immediately shut off the electricity.
Business owners were seen piling up metal sheets that blew off the roof and walls, and are now waiting for permission to go inside their stores and start cleaning the wreckage from damage.
The worst damage appeared to be at Dave’s Guns and More, where both walls collapsed and the roof caved in.
The flea market has been around for 35 years, according assistant manager Sage Roberts.

- WACO, Texas (KWTX) - #WacoISD is partnering with VOICE to install vape-disposal boxes on campus at Waco High School and University High School.
VOICE is a non-profit that specializes in teaching life skills, and substance abuse prevention in schools.
Thursday morning, the pair installed disposal boxes on both high school campuses.
Their hope is that students will dispose of their devices before walking into school, because the consequences for being caught with on on campus are steep.
In Sept. of 2023, it was signed into law that in the state of Texas, students caught with vapes on campus would be sent to a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program.
According to the Texas Education Agency, last school year Waco High School had 53 instances of students being disciplined for possession of the devices.
At University High School, that number was 51.
