Seventh and James Baptist Church will move from its current building on Seventh Street and James Avenue as developers Parallel and The Deven Group plan a 265-unit housing development with 630 beds in the area.
The church will construct a smaller church fit for their congregation next door on Seventh St. and James Ave.
Pastor Erin Conaway said the congregation began discussing the move four and a half years ago, after they evaluated their property and resources available to sustain the church.
“We started the conversation four and a half years ago about how can we make sure we are the best stewards of all that we have, not just in our property but our resources and all that kind of stuff,” Conaway said.

The Bears lost to the Los Angeles Rams 20-17 in overtime on Jan. 18, ending their postseason hopes.
Billings, a 2013 Waco High School graduate and 2018 Baylor graduate, recorded 31 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack and five quarterback hits during the season. The Bears secured a division title.
“I just want to say thank you for all the support this season,” Billings told KWTX. “We had a great run, a lot of ups and downs but we pulled off a lot of good wins, and it makes it all the more better knowing I have all that support back home. Hoping for great things next season.”

According to a Gallup survey, at least 60% of Americans reported drinking alcohol from 1997 to 2023. In 2025 that number dropped to 54 percent, a record low according to their polls.
Kyle Citrano, co-owner of George’s and Jorge’s Cantina, says the decline has had a big impact on the restaurant and bar industry.
“It’s been a detriment, you saw a ton of bars close after covid and never come back,” Citrano said.

“It was a lot of fun just watching how it all came together,” Guerrero said, “even being a small part of it, in the end you really feel like you were a part of something truly special.”
Guerrero was born in Nicaragua and immigrated to Costa Rica as a child, growing up with a love for music. He now serves as the music director of the Sarasota Orchestra and the artistic director of the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago.

Walker Carroll was riding his bike along FM 2957, near Pep Club Road in Hallsburg, when he was hit from behind by a pickup truck.
According to DPS, he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. His father, Dan Carroll, says while Walker’s still non-responsive he is stable.

- SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KWTX) - Police arrested a man after a 10-year-old girl was shot during a road rage incident Friday morning.
Bryan Arceo, 41, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and a single count of endangering a child. His bond amount is not yet listed online.
Police said Friday the girl was in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to investigators, Arceo was backing out of a driveway “aggressively” when another driver honked at him.
Arceo responded by firing his gun towards the victim’s vehicle, striking the girl in the back seat, police said. Two other adults were unharmed inside the vehicle.
Arceo took off, but officers were able to locate him and take him into custody.
“REMEMBER: When a driver’s behavior escalates and becomes violent, stay calm and report it to the police immediately,” police wrote in a social media post.

- ABBOTT, Texas (KWTX) - A small white church sits quietly in Abbott, the kind you might pass without a second glance. But its survival story is intertwined with one of country music’s biggest names: Willie Nelson.
In 2006, Abbott Methodist Church faced closure. According to its current pastor, Stephen Girsh, membership had dwindled to just five people. The United Methodist Conference decided to shut down the church and put it up for sale.
Then came a phone call that changed everything.

- WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A five-time Olympic skeleton athlete who grew up in McGregor says she may not be able to participate in the upcoming Winter Olympics in February after a Canadian coach’s actions affected her qualifying points.
Katie Uhlaender, who attended school in #McGregor, said the Canadian team’s coach pulled their female athletes just before her final qualifying event, lowering the number of points athletes could earn to secure their Olympic spots.
“The coach ensured that no one else could maneuver, by waiting till the last second, no one could go to another race because registration had closed and no one else could enter,” Uhlaender said. “So he was making sure that this race was going to have less points and that no one could do anything about it, he wanted everyone in that race to not get points.”

- KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - Six puppies who were rescued from a park in Killeen Thursday, just before the recent winter storm, are now thriving with foster families.
The puppies were found Thursday by a Killeen Parks and Recreation employee at the A.A. Lane Neighborhood Park in Killeen.
“They came in without any official papers or documentation or anything so we couldn’t be exactly sure what kind of breed they are...but we most likely think a mix between some sort of bully mix and Boston terrier,” said Marcel Rudin with Killeen Animal Services said.
Rudin said the puppies were freezing and covered in fleas when they arrived, but staff worked quickly to help them.

Ryen Harris-Contreras walked with the assistance of therapists at a rehabilitation facility, marking a significant milestone in his recovery. Doctors had given him little chance of survival when he was rushed to the emergency room a month ago.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight. Today, that faith had steps,” said Ryen’s mother, Sonora Smith. “Thank you to the therapists who helped make this the best part of his day.”

KWTX talked with Jessica Bruner, a close family friend to John Robinson after the China Spring father slipped and fell on ice during the storm and hit his head.
Robinson is possibly paralyzed from the neck down after slipping and falling Tuesday morning and waiting an hour for someone to notice him.
“He laid there for a while until someone passing by found him. He had hypothermia and there’s a lot of damage to the spinal cord,” Bruner explains.
