- A JetBlue plane struck a coyote on departure from Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport on Tuesday morning.
"They hit a coyote on departure. They will be returning," said a voice heard over a police scanner.
Nobody was hurt and no damage was reported to the plane, but the crew and 64 passengers on board had to turn around and land at Green before ultimately leaving for John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

- A morning walk along Juno Beach turned into a gruesome discovery last weekend when a professional shark diver and his girlfriend came across the body of a 12-foot great hammerhead shark with its dorsal fin and tail missing.
Michael Ohagan said he initially thought the shark was stuck in a sandbar. But as the tide rolled in, he realized the animal had been mutilated.
“We found out that the dorsal fin had been sawed off and the tail had been sawed off,” Ohagan said.
Ohagan suspects the shark was caught from shore and died from exhaustion before it was cut up.

- Two juvenile bobcats have been successfully released back into the wild following 10 months of care at Think Wild’s Wildlife Hospital, the hospital said on Wednesday.
A team of Think Wild staff and volunteers released the siblings Friday, March 20, at a remote site near Dayville, selected in coordination with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The release marks the end of a long rehabilitation process, in which staff, interns, and volunteers provided critical care, enrichment opportunities, and practice with live prey to raise and prepare the two bobcats for life in the wild.
The bobcat siblings (one male and one female) were admitted on May 19, 2025 at approximately four weeks old and each weighing less than a pound. The rescuer found them alone on the side of the road in Condon, Oregon at Dyer State Wayside and called ODFW.

- White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday said the U.S. continues to "decimate" Iran, as more than 9,000 enemy targets have been hit since the start of Operation Epic Fury on February 28.
She said while Iran's missile and drone attacks are down by about 90%, the nation's Navy has been annihilated.
“This is the largest elimination of a Navy over a three-week period since World War II,” she said, adding that the U.S is "very close to meeting the core objectives" of the mission and is ahead of schedule.
Leavitt also said Iranian leadership has been wiped out, pointing out that the new leader "has not been seen."
Leavitt said while Trump's preference is always peace, saying there doesn't need to be any more "death and destruction," he is ready to "unleash hell" if Iran "fails to accept the reality of the current moment -- if they fail to understand that they have been defeated and will continue to be."

Elisha Joe Young, 38, the former manager of the Eugene Weekly, entered guilty pleas Tuesday to two counts of first-degree theft and three counts of aggravated first-degree theft, according to court records. The charges are connected to an embezzlement investigation involving Eugene Weekly.
Back in December '23 the local news outlet had gone out of print for the first time in more than 20 years due to the substantial final blow; Eugene Police confirmed the report of a theft on December 19, 2023. Following the discovery, the Weekly's 10-person staff was subsequently laid off.

- Oregon families may be seeing inflation cool, but a new analysis suggests the state remains one of the hardest places in the country to afford the basics.
A report from the Common Sense Institute, based on federal data and state-level modeling, found Oregon ranks as the fifth least affordable state in the nation when comparing incomes to the cost of essentials such as housing, groceries, insurance and child care. The report said that ranking is unchanged from 2019.
The analysis found that since 2019, Oregon households must spend about $18,300 more each year to cover essential expenses, compared with $15,400 nationally. Household incomes in Oregon increased nearly 34% between 2019 and 2025, but that growth slightly lagged the increase in expenses, resulting in households effectively losing 2.4% of their gross income to higher prices.
