The fire is on the east side of House Mountain, a park about 15 miles from downtown Knoxville, and its location makes it difficult to fight, Rural Metro Fire spokesperson Jeff Bagwell told Knox News. The mountain's east side has "the most rugged and steep terrain," so it is tough for bulldozers and crews to reach the site safely.
The fire was reported just before 3 a.m. April 14. Responders were on the scene right away, but bulldozers couldn't arrive until daylight. As of around 10 a.m., four bulldozers were working around the fire to contain it. The hope is that it will burn itself out. Read more at knoxnews.com.

As Flight 38 prepared for an early morning departure on April 8, veterans arrived at McGhee Tyson Airport starting about 6 a.m., gathering for breakfast before takeoff. That's the brass tacks. The SEC no longer can hide from reality.
The Big Ten won the last three college football championships. The SEC hasn't reached the national championship game since 2023 Georgia won it all. Now, as insult to injury, the Big Ten sent two teams to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, while the SEC sits at home.
On today's episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams address the SEC's reality and just how dire the situation is. They also suggest a new motto for the SEC, now that the Big Ten is on top.
