The fire is on the east side of House Mountain, a park about 15 miles from downtown Knoxville, and its location makes it difficult to fight, Rural Metro Fire spokesperson Jeff Bagwell told Knox News. The mountain's east side has "the most rugged and steep terrain," so it is tough for bulldozers and crews to reach the site safely.
The fire was reported just before 3 a.m. April 14. Responders were on the scene right away, but bulldozers couldn't arrive until daylight. As of around 10 a.m., four bulldozers were working around the fire to contain it. The hope is that it will burn itself out. Read more at knoxnews.com.
