- Major construction works at the Vindo Stadium in Voi are expected to be completed by December 2026, President William Ruto has announced.
President Ruto, who is on a tour of Taita Taveta County, inspected the ongoing construction works at the stadium, among other development projects.
The 10,000-seater facility is being developed to host football, rugby and athletics, with the government saying it will provide a platform for nurturing sporting talent in the region.
The project, whose groundbreaking was conducted in March after stalling for nine years, is currently about 50 percent complete and has a budget of 950 million shillings.
Once completed, the Vindo Stadium will provide an alternative sporting venue to the nearby Danson Mwanyumba Stadium.
The government says the facility is part of efforts to improve sports infrastructure and support emerging talent in Taita Taveta County.

The parents claim that when found out, the officer threatened to shoot them and offered them 20,000 shillings to buy their silence.
Lumakanda DCC has confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was arrested yesterday evening and appeared before the Kakamega Law Courts today. Police and IPOA are investigating the allegations, with investigators expected to establish what happened and examine the evidence recovered from the scene.

The deceased was on his way to Makutano Junction along Thika Road to collect a phone sent by his daughter, Josephine Nduku Maitha, who was travelling from Kitui to Ruiru.
However, tragedy struck when the man and his rider were knocked down by a private vehicle at the bridge.
A confrontation reportedly ensued, with the vehicle's occupants allegedly attacking the two.
It was during the confrontation that the man slipped from the bridge and plunged into the Athi River, where he drowned.
As the family comes to terms with the loss of their loved one, the deceased's body has been moved to Mulinga Funeral Home, where it awaits an autopsy.

- A prisoner who escaped from Kibera Law Courts has been rearrested and sentenced to death. Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. Zainab Abdul handed the sentence to Alex Kibisu, who had fled custody while facing robbery with violence charges.
Kibisu, already serving a death sentence for a separate robbery case, was captured on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Riruta, Kawangware. Police say he was recognized after an altercation with a matatu conductor over unpaid fare led to his detention at Riruta Police Station.
His escape in November 2023 triggered the interdiction of six prison officers. Following his latest sentencing, Kibisu was escorted under heavy guard to Kamiti Maximum Prison, with police maintaining tight security both inside and outside the courtroom.
Authorities describe him as one of the most wanted criminals, whose brazen escape had raised serious questions about prison security.

- Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit has called on the national government to compensate 43 families whose livestock were killed during an ongoing security operation in the county, with losses estimated at KSh 70 million.
Speaking at Archers' Post Police Station, where he accompanied affected families to lodge formal reports, Lelelit claimed that more than 700 livestock were shot dead by police officers conducting the operation.
He called for investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the killing of the livestock. The governor says an estimated 15,000 people from four wards where the operation is ongoing have been displaced.

- Democracy for the Citizens Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to prioritize the fight against corruption in government if the United Opposition clinches power in 2027, alleging that graft remains the greatest stumbling block for Kenyans living abroad to invest back home.
Gachagua, who spoke when he attended Sunday service at the Victory Chapel in Dallas, Texas, said the quest to do away with the vice will top his election manifesto, in a bid to woo back investors, some of whom he believes have relocated from the country because of graft.
He also told Kenyans in the diaspora that the United Opposition would bring immediate reforms in the country’s health sector.
