- El Grito: A Mexican Independence Day Celebration
Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with an evening of music, culture and community.
Presented in collaboration with the Mexican Consulate, the celebration features live performances showcasing the sounds and traditions of Mexico and Latin music, along with cultural entertainment and special presentations leading up to the traditional El Grito de Dolores ceremony.
This video is from a portion of the celebration streamed on YouTube during the event. The live shot was taken from the roof camera on top of the Civic Center. The evening concluded with live music and dancing for the community to enjoy.
Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16 because, on Sept. 16, 1810, priest Miguel Hidalgo rang a bell in the town of Dolores Hidalgo, calling people to fight for Mexican independence from Spain.
