- In 1945, only weeks before the end of WWII a young American soldier was shot dead there. A photo of him lying on the ground went around the world. Today the corner looks exactly the same as it did back then. Marie lives by the corner in the same house since more than eighty years. She lost her father to war. Robert, a young descendant of the soldier, appears. He travels from Texas to the corner to understand why he feels so strangely connected to his great-uncle. Marie sees in him her late father. It seems like there is an invisible connection between times. A Forensic scientist and his team measure the corner and show the residents the old war in 3D.

Sudan's civil war, which raged from the 1980s until a peace deal was brokered in the early 2000s, marks the longest war ever to take place on the African continent. Dr. Hassan al-Turabi, who served as intellectual mentor of the Sudanese regime for much of the war, states that "We have never known slavery," although many in the south claimed that the North launched regular slave raids into their territory. "There were times when the situation seemed quite hopeless," remarks Nhial Deng, former SPLM Secretary of Foreign Affairs, on the fitful negotiations that finally led to a peace treaty in 2005.

Palestinians are unwanted in Israel, as we saw last week's programme; but in war-torn, sectarian Lebanon, among fellow Arabs, they hardly fare better, and most live in poverty. Barred from working, they also have limited access to medical care and higher education. Many have been in Lebanon for 50 years.

"Hamas is able to reach out to women through financial assistance", explains politician Intisar Al-Wazir. It runs a network of schools and hospitals which have a reputation for being efficient and corruption free. But while its social policies won it the female vote, rumours Hamas plans to implement Sharia Law have alienated some women. Others are worried about the financial implications of its rigid foreign policy.
