- Description
- After spending ten days squashed together in a tiny spacecraft, things could have gone one of two ways for the NASA astronauts who flew to the far side of the moon and back. Either they'd had enough of one another's company or they'd become like family. Happily it's the second. As they explained tonight, at their first press conference since returning to Earth, they'll be bonded forever.

- Calls for Keir Starmer to resign over Mandelson's failed security vetting
- Date posted
- Description
- Back in September, Sir Keir Starmer told MPs that during Lord Mandelson's controversial appointment as Ambassador to the United States "full, due process was followed."
But today Downing Street was forced to confirm a Guardian newspaper report that Lord Mandelson had actually failed the second round of his security vetting. The Number 10 statement said it was the Foreign Office which overruled the security check.
It has now been notified that the Foreign Office permanent under-secretary Sir Olly Robbins will be leaving his post after the PM and Foreign Secretary have lost confidence.

- Labour could lose half its seats on Birmingham City Council, according to an exclusive ITV News Central poll that points to a dramatic shake-up in the city’s political landscape.
The latest survey by More in Common projects Labour falling from 65 seats in 2022 to just 32 – a loss that would end its overwhelming 14-year dominance of the council.
The findings suggest no party would be anywhere close to gaining overall control, raising the prospect of a fragmented council for the next four years.

They decorate the garden where the urn containing her ashes rests, as well as the skin of her parents Tricia and Alan, who each have commemorative tattoos.
Kim died in December 2023, just eight days after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.
Now, her mother Tricia is among hundreds of women in the UK seeking legal advice after learning there may be a link between the contraceptive injection Kim had been given for years and the tumour that killed her.
We cannot know for certain whether Depo-Provera caused the brain tumor; but Tricia fears that without it Kim would still be here.
Tricia was one of the dozens of people who contacted ITV News following our previous report on the issue; many more responded with their own experiences online.

- Trump's warning for Iran if they don't agree a ceasefire deal
- Date posted

- Description
- Chancellor Rachel Reeves has branded the war in Iran a "mistake", in some of the strongest words from the government opposing the conflict to date.
Speaking at an event with journalists in Washington on Wednesday, the Chancellor said she was unconvinced the war had made the world a safer place and echoed the prime minister's frustration over its impact on household bills in the UK.
“The question is not whether you like or dislike the Iranian regime – I strongly dislike the Iranian regime – but how to achieve the change that you want to achieve," Reeves said.
She went on to add that Iran did not currently have a nuclear weapon and the best way to prevent the Tehran regime from getting one was through diplomacy rather than conflict.

The official report into why Kebatu, an ethiopian asylum seeker, was mistakenly let out blamed those old fashioned bits of paper being passed around the criminal justice system. The Justice Secretary, David Lammy, told us prisons have to switch to a digital system by the end of this parliament.

Over 13 million people have fled their homes since the conflict erupted, with no end in sight as the fighting between the official military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues.
Growing evidence shows regional powers like the United Arab Emirates backing combatants behind the scenes.
Attempts by the United States and regional powers, now distracted by the Iran war, have failed to establish a ceasefire.

- Iran war impact: UK growth forecast slashed as IMF warns of higher energy prices
- Date posted
- Description
- The IMF has cut its forecast for economic growth this year to 0.8% - the largest downgrade among the G7’s wealthy nations - before improving to 1.3% in 2027.
Inflation, which had been gently fading before the US and Israel attacked Iran, is now expected to edge up again, as is the rate of unemployment, which is predicted to reach 5.6%.
Higher prices and more jobseekers will leave everyone - households, businesses and the government - poorer. But an average inflation rate of 3.2% in 2026 is a far cry from the double-digit inflation the UK experienced the last time energy prices took off, after Russia invaded Ukraine four years ago.
The IMF’s assumption is that the scale of this shock is not comparable, and that the war will be short-lived. But its forecast was effectively nailed down a month ago. Energy prices have risen since, and what happens next looks as unpredictable as the man driving events - President Trump.

- Date posted
- Description
- The Southport Inquiry published a damning report into the 2024 attack, saying 'it could have and should have been prevented'.
Three little girls, Bebe King, Alice da Silva Aguiar and Elsie Dot Stancombe, were murdered by a teenager, wielding a knife, who burst into their dance class. Eight other children and two adults were wounded.
The report called it, "an attack of unparalleled cruelty," and listed how a litany of agencies had failed to recognise the dreadful risk posed by the perpetrator.
More on the programme:
- President Trump has renewed his feud with Pope Leo XIV over the war in Iran, by describing him as 'weak' in a Truth Social post. It comes after the Pope's condemnation of America's role in the conflict.
- Peter Magyar won a landslide and landmark victory in Hungary, defeating incumbent and 'Putin's best friend in Europe', Viktor Orban.
