- Donald Trump won’t be the first controversial leader to be hosted by The Queen during a formal State Visit to the UK.
The invitation might come from Buckingham Palace, but it’s never the Queen who decides who will and who won’t come on these grand ceremonial occasions.
The Foreign Office normally concludes which leader it would like to come here based on the government's economic and political priorities at the time.
Theresa May for example, was keen to rush out an invitation when she visited the White House shortly after Mr Trump was elected.
But as the constitutional Monarch and Head of State, it falls to the Queen to lead the country’s welcome on a State Visit.
The UK has most recently hosted the Kings of the Netherlands and Spain.
Before them, it was the Presidents of Colombia, China and Mexico.
The most recent US President to come on a State Visit was Barack Obama and his wife Michel...

- IVF clinics have been warned against "trading on hope" after the fertility watchdog said older women were being exploited.
Sally Cheshire, chairwoman of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), told the Telegraph some private clinics were using "selective success rates" to target older women.
New figures published by the newspaper show that the number of women undergoing fertility treatment has doubled since 2004, to 10,835 cases in 2017.
Jessica Hepburn, the founder of Fertility Festival, has become a pioneer in raising awareness of what it means to struggle with fertility.
She said the cost of some of her treatments were £15,000 each, which accounted for the additional treatments.
"You become as a patient sort of partly complicit because you will do anything that you think might improve your chances at success," she added.

- In China, an estimated one and a half million people are held behind wire fences. Their crime is their refusal to denounce their religion.
Beijing has routinely been accused of detaining Uighur Muslims in what detainees call "concentration camps".
It is thought there are 70 of the camps in the country, and that number is growing.
Only recent did an admission of the existence of such "reeducation centres" come from the country's government. It insists they serve a purpose of preventing extremism and denies any wrongdoing.
But the families of the detainees say those taken their are kept in demeaning conditions.
