- A report carried out by the Archbishop of New York for Pope Benedict XVI, which expressed concern about "the atmosphere, structure, staffing and guiding philosophy" of the Irish College in Rome, contained "significant errors of fact", Ireland's four Catholic archbishops have said.
Pope Benedict announced an apostolic visitation of some dioceses, as well as seminaries and religious congregations in 2010. The visitation to the Irish College in Rome last year was led by then Archbishop Timothy Dolan, who has since become a cardinal.
Irish Times Religious Affairs Correspondent Patsy McGarry considers the contents of the unpublished visitation report, which was presented to the Congregation for Catholic Education in Rome, and a copy of which has been seen by The Irish Times.

- The Olympic torch entered the Republic early this morning following a handover ceremony at a former Border checkpoint in Newry.
The 1992 Olympic medal winners Michael Carruth and Wayne McCullough were involved in the ceremony with McCullough lighting the torch carried by Carruth at the border line.
President Michael D Higgins received the Olympic flame at a ceremony in Howth before it travelled by convoy to Croke Park
Kilkenny hurler Henry Shefflin carried the flame along the Skyline Walkway at Croke Park.
Olympian Sonia O'Sullivan carried the flame onto St Stephen's Green, where a community festival was taking place. She lit an Olympic cauldron on the stage in St Stephen's Green before the flame began its journey back to Belfast.

Laura White, a 35-year-old nurse from Dublin, agreed a deal with the bank on Monday, settling a case taken over a shortfall arising from the sale of a house she voluntarily surrendered in 2009.

- An elderly couple were evicted yesterday from their home in Killiney, Co Dublin, after falling behind on mortgage payments to the institution previously known as Irish Nationwide Building Society. Asta Kelly (63) and her husband Brendan (71) were removed from their home at St Matthias Wood, Killiney, Co Dublin, after they were unable to meet their mortgage payments. Mrs Kelly said "The evictions that happened 160 years ago in Ireland are happening again," she told radio station Spin 1038.
They were being "instigated from banks that ruined the whole country", said Ms Kelly, who had previously lived in Germany with her husband. "Now we're at their mercy -- they can take your home instead of renegotiating."
