- Former Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has addressed the controversy surrounding Kirana Hills in Pakistan and whether the area, reportedly associated with Pakistan’s nuclear facilities, was hit during Operation Sindoor.
Chauhan explained that Indian forces had sent several loitering missions toward Sargodha before the strikes. Kirana Hills is located around 10 kilometres north of Sargodha. According to Chauhan, the loitering missions were searching for radars in and around Sargodha and could remain airborne for around two hours. If a mission failed to detect a target during that period, it could eventually descend and hit somewhere.
Addressing why smoke was reportedly seen around Kirana Hills, Chauhan said, “It must have come and hit one of those hills,” suggesting this could explain the images circulated by Pakistani media.
His remarks provide a new explanation for the Kirana Hills episode while clarifying that the hills themsel...

- Former Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has revealed a key moment during the final phase of Operation Sindoor, describing what happened after Pakistan indicated that it wanted to talk. Chauhan said that when Pakistanis picked up the phone and expressed a desire for talks at around 10 AM, the Air Chief asked him whether Indian forces should strike Sargodha.
Chauhan said he responded, “Go ahead”, and then asked the Air Chief to identify two additional targets. One of those targets was Skardu. According to Chauhan, the plan was subsequently changed because of bad weather over Skardu, with the strike target shifting to Bholari.
The remarks provide a glimpse into the rapid military decision-making during the operation and the role of India’s senior military leadership as events unfolded. Chauhan’s account also highlights how targeting decisions were being made even as Pakistan sought communication and a possible end to the fighting.

- Pakistan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Tuesday resubmitted a contempt petition in the Supreme Court, accusing the government of violating its August 18 order directing Imran Khan's transfer to a private hospital. The petition, filed through Khan's sister Uzma, alleges he was taken to the state-run PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital for an eye procedure and diagnostic tests, then returned to Adiala Jail despite the court's directive that he remain hospitalised until September 16. The plea names PM Shehbaz Sharif and senior officials as respondents, accusing them of wilful disobedience. The government has defended its decision citing security concerns and has separately sought a review of the court's original order, calling it discriminatory.

In response to questions about protests against the event and concerns over the RSS’s treatment of religious minorities in India, Mamdani said he was deeply troubled by what he described as an “exclusionary vision.” Speaking as New York City’s first Indian-American mayor, Mamdani said he was raised with an understanding of India as a “pluralistic society” and a “secular republic” where every person should belong. He said he opposed the movement’s vision not only as an Indian-American but also as the mayor of a city committed to inclusion regardless of colour, creed, religion or faith. However, when directly asked whether the Madison Square Garden rally should be cancelled, Mamdani said he does not support the rally but was unsure whether the city has jurisdiction to cancel a private event.

If implemented, this could become the largest single mass revocation of U.S. visas in history. The State Department says the number will remain dynamic as more cases are identified, with revocations potentially carried out on a rolling basis.
The development also has a major India angle. Indians are among the largest beneficiaries of the H-1B visa programme, and the Trump administration has separately proposed a $103,265 fee for new H-1B petitions. Together, these measures highlight the growing scrutiny facing foreign nationals seeking to live, work or remain in the U.S.

- Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa said Syria is “shaking off a dark burden” and moving toward development after the U.S. removed the country from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The removal took effect after a 45-day congressional review period triggered when U.S. President Donald Trump formally notified Congress on July 8 of his intention to rescind the designation. Al-Sharaa said Syria was leaving behind a painful chapter and moving toward development, reconstruction and rebuilding.
Syria had remained on the list since 1979, when Washington accused the government of former President Hafez al-Assad of supporting militant groups. - Description
- Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to travel to India next month to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, according to a Reuters report. If confirmed, the visit would mark Xi's first trip to India in seven years and could signal further efforts by Beijing and New Delhi to improve bilateral relations after years of tensions over their disputed Himalayan border. An Indian source familiar with preparations told Reuters that Chinese officials were already working on hotel bookings and security arrangements. Two other Indian sources said Xi could travel with a delegation of roughly 400 officials, significantly larger than the fewer than 200 officials who accompanied him during his last India visit in 2019. China's foreign ministry, while affirming Beijing's commitment to BRICS cooperation and support for India as host, said it currently had no information available to provide on Xi's travel arrangements.

- 'Lakshmi Maxxing': How A Hindu Goddess Became The Internet's Latest Wellness Trend

- A new wellness trend called "Lakshmi Maxxing" is taking over social media, urging users to tap into their "divine feminine energy" by decluttering their space, practicing gratitude, and cultivating inner radiance — all inspired by Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu deity of abundance and prosperity. While the practices themselves echo centuries-old Indian spiritual traditions, the trend has sparked debate over cultural appropriation, with critics pointing out it's the latest in a pattern of Indian culture being repackaged and popularised without credit — from dupattas rebranded as "Scandi scarves" to Kolhapuris resembling Prada flats. The concern isn't cultural exchange itself, but the erasure of its Indian origins in the process.

- AA leaked audio recording has put the Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case back in the spotlight, with gangster Goldy Brar allegedly claiming that he and his gang were responsible for the killing of Nijjar in Surrey, Canada, in June 2023.
In the purported conversation with UK-based Khalistani terrorist Paramjit Singh Pamma, Brar makes several allegations about Nijjar, including claims that he supported and empowered individuals involved in a drug network and was connected to the illegal weapons trade. Brar presents these allegations as the reason behind the killing.
The Nijjar murder had already triggered a major India-Canada diplomatic crisis, after former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged a potential link to Indian agents. India rejected those allegations.
The latest leaked audio brings the Goldy Brar-Nijjar connection, organised crime allegations and the murder investigation back into focus. However, Brar's statements are allegations a...

- Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's planned three-day visit to Delhi, scheduled from August 23rd, has been postponed — and the reasons behind it reveal a great deal about the current state of India-Bangladesh relations. Ahead of the visit, a top aide to Rahman signalled openness to a so-called "Islamic NATO," while Dhaka simultaneously demanded India extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Rahman had already visited Beijing first, asking China to manage the Teesta water project and floating an unrealistic Yunnan-to-Bangladesh highway through contested Myanmar territory. Meanwhile, radical groups continue operating within Bangladesh, and Dhaka appears reluctant to even attend the upcoming BRICS summit despite an Indian invitation. India, for its part, has quietly moved to secure the Siliguri Corridor with a new triangular military grid, even as Bangladesh's own war games treat India as an adversary — something India's war games, focused on China and Pakis...

- The Trump administration has launched an "economic D-Day" campaign to isolate Iran, nearly six months into its war with the country. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a sweeping expansion of secondary sanctions, warning world leaders they have a defined "timeline" to cut ties with Tehran or risk being severed from the dollar-based financial system. Under "Operation Economic Outcast," Treasury officials say they have mapped the networks Iran uses to smuggle oil, access funds and evade sanctions.
Nearly 60 Iran-linked entities, individuals and vessels were sanctioned across oil, nuclear, missile and cyber sectors, along with a shadow-fleet network spanning the UAE, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Switzerland and Europe. Bessent said President Trump is personally calling world leaders demanding they cease dealings with Iran, and a major financial institution will be sanctioned by week's end.

- Jaish-e-Mohammed built its recruitment model around the premise that Indian forces would not strike key targets across the Line of Control. Indian military operations systematically challenged that assumption.
In September 2016, 4 Para and 9 Para Special Forces crossed the Line of Control to destroy launch pads. In February 2019, the Indian Air Force struck a Jaish camp in Balakot, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Operation Sindoor later targeted Bahawalpur, demonstrating that major Pakistani cities were not beyond India's reach.
Beyond physical damage, these operations also challenged the narrative used by Jaish-e-Mohammed to recruit young boys at facilities such as Jamia Subhanallah.

- India faces a difficult balancing act as Donald Trump’s economic pressure campaign against Iran intensifies. New Delhi has too much invested in Chabahar and too much strategic interest in Iran’s connectivity routes to simply walk away. But unlike Russia, Iran does not provide India with the same combination of oil, defence equipment and strategic depth. That makes India’s Iran policy far more cautious. With China and Russia expanding their economic ties with Tehran, India risks losing influence if it retreats too far. So can New Delhi protect its strategic autonomy while avoiding a confrontation with Washington? The answer could reshape India’s foreign policy.
