Visit Kalshi’s website and you can make wagers on everything from which school will win the March Madness tournament, to who will be president in 2028, or even what President Trump will say at his Women’s History Month event. The rise of prediction market has seemingly happened at warp speed. But where exactly did the idea of betting on anything come from? Sports gambling may only be legal in certain states, but prediction market company Kalshi operates in all 50 states and is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Kalshi functions with the commodities regulatory framework, rather than under state-level gaming laws. - After Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s removal from the Megan Moroney concert at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on Tuesday night, there’s been more fallout. Rodeo Houston officials voted Thursday to strip Hidalgo of her ex-officio director status, a non-voting honor based on her office. The move essentially revokes many of her privileges on rodeo grounds. At issue is the incident where Judge Hidalgo claims she was threatened with arrest and removed from the concert by security officers. She posted some footage of the interaction on Instagram and claimed she was shoved by security while attempting to enter the dirt area of the concert. The Rodeo says the show was sold out, that Hidalgo lacked the proper credentials to enter that area, that she knew she wouldn’t be able to see the concert from the up close “chute care” before arriving, and that she was sent back to her ticketed seats inside a stadium suite. - Spring break and a partial shutdown of the federal government are causing a logjam at Hobby Airport in Houston, where travelers face hours-long wait times to make it through security screening lines.
TSA workers, employed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, have been working without pay since mid-February because of a partial government shutdown. Staffing levels are impacting the number of security screening lanes open at a given time, according to the Houston Airport System, which says the number of lanes open can vary from shift to shift and from airport to airport.

- Lizzo’s Rodeo performance was a star-studded love letter to Houston five years in the making.
The Houston native set the tone by pulling up to the NRG Stadium Main Stage in a fleet of slabs on Friday night. The hour-long set included accompaniment by the TSU marching band, a rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” with Houston gospel group The Walls Group, and — prompting a massive reaction from the crowd — a rendition of “Still Tippin” with Houston rappers Paul Wall, Slim Thug and Mike Jones. The show also featured a tribute to the recently passed Michael 5000 Watts.
Lizzo was originally scheduled to perform at RodeoHouston in 2020 before the event got shut down due to COVID-19. Tonight, she performed to a sold-out stadium of 70,000 people. She told the crowd that this performance was a dream come true.
