The vote by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts clears the way for the U.S. Mint to begin production on the coin. Federal law says no living president can appear on U.S. currency, but Megan Sullivan, the acting chief of the Office of Design Management at the Mint, said the Treasury Secretary has authority to authorize the minting and issuance of the new 24-karat gold coins, which Scott Bessent has used to get around that prohibition and put President Trump on a coin. - Houston is yet again facing a mounting trash crisis that has left residents frustrated and forced to seek alternatives. - An adult female turtle from the most endangered sea turtle species in the world was rescued off the coast of Galveston last weekend and is now recovering, but still in critical condition at the local sea turtle hospital.
A bystander found the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle washed ashore while walking on a Galveston beach. The bystander called the sea turtle hotline (1-866-TURTLE-5) so the Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research rescue team could respond.
