Poilievre continued, saying, “Get rid of the tanker ban now. Blocking Alberta oil from our Pacific waters while allowing American tankers to use those same waters is an anti-Alberta and anti-Canadian policy.”

"I'm happy to stand here today and say that Alberta's government has formally filed our West Coast oil pipeline submission to the federal Major Projects Office for Project of National Interest Listing," Smith said.
"The West Coast oil pipeline will transport more than one million barrels of oil per day to Canada's West Coast and Strengthen access to growing Asian markets, helping to meet Alberta's goal to double oil production to eight million barrels per day over the next 10 to 15 years," Smith added.
"The best route for a new pipeline is one that goes through one that already exists out through the Trans Mountain corridor to our Pacific Coast - the gateway to the world's fastest-growing markets," Carney said.
Carney also added that the federal government will maintain the ...

- The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is calling on the big three to justify charges that, it says, may break new rules that ban activation fees.
The consumer protection rules, implemented on June 12, 2026, prohibit administrative charges for activating, modifying or cancelling internet or cellphone plans.
These are the fees the CRTC has flagged: A $40 device handling charge by Bell, a $15 SIM card fee by Telus and a $40 device setup charge by Rogers. The CRTC argues these fees discourage consumers from switching providers.
As Jacqueline Hansen reports, telecoms must provide justification for their new fees by July 30.

Both sides are vowing to continue talking about the prospects of peace and the future of the vital Strait of Hormuz.
But as Candice Cole reports, some thorny issues remain.

Hearn previously told The Associated Press he reached into the pool to examine the newly peeled coating during a 64-mile bike ride.
Trump has said federal authorities made “multiple arrests” of people he accused of vandalizing the reflecting pool following a more than $14-million rehabilitation project he launched for the nation’s 250th anniversary.

- An agreement between British Columbia and the federal government will maintain the northern oil tanker ban.
The memorandum of understanding unveiled by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier David Eby in Vancouver Thursday says the province will be compensated for environmental risks if Ottawa imposes an oil pipeline on B.C.
Carney also said the memorandum of understanding (MOU) would help unlock more than $150 billion in new investment, with British Columbia as the "linchpin."
Eby said there was "no way" under the deal that a northern bitumen pipeline would be built, adding that the MOU doesn’t require B.C. to support any pipeline proposal from Alberta.
“However, as I said before, we recognize our constitutional position and we do not have the authority to stop a new pipeline. We will not be going to court to fight a pipeline project," he said, "pipelines are federal jurisdiction."

- Description
- Businesses are at a breaking point in the fight against crime in Downtown Kelowna.
The City of Kelowna says several businesses have signed up for its security program designed to combat growing crime and street disorder.
Some business owners say security measures once considered optional have become necessary just to stay open, even as the city rolls out new initiatives aimed at reducing crime.
Todd Daniels, owner of Gallery Street Clothing, says preventing theft at his store is “a constant battle.”
Daniels installed heavy-duty security shutters that cost “upwards of $7,000,” money he paid out of his own pocket because the program that now supports businesses with these kinds of expenses was not available at the time.
Cohan Sassaman reports.
