- The Calgary Police Service has issued an Amber Alert for an 11-year-old boy who has been missing since Thursday afternoon, after the province issued an exemption to the alert for a vulnerable missing child.
The Alberta Emergency Alert was sent out at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday for Parker.
While Parker's disappearance doesn't meet the legislated criteria for an Amber Alert, police said the exemption was granted because of the "unique circumstances of this investigation."
"Parker is a vulnerable autistic child and we are deeply concerned for his well-being given the length of time he has been missing and his specific vulnerabilities," said Insp. Rod MacNeil.
Parker is neurodivergent and non-verbal and may become even more scared if confronted by strangers, according to police.
The boy was last seen at his day home in the 0 to 100 block of Connaught Drive Northwest sometime between 11:08 a.m. and 11:41 a.m. on Thursday.

Trump’s amplification of debunked theories about the presidential election six years ago and his inability to accept his loss led to one of the darker moments in American history when a mob of his supporters led a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in the final days of his first term.
Now back in power, Trump opted to revisit the subject, despite persistent voter concerns about the cost of living, American forces escalating strikes on Iran in a conflict for which there is no end in sight, and an immigration crackdown facing bipartisan scrutiny for its sometimes deadly tactics.

- As wildfires continue to rage across northern Ontario and thick smoke drifts across the U.S. border, Ontario Premier Doug Ford has responded to criticism over the province's emergency preparedness response.
"We are throwing every single resource we can. When you have 191 infernos running right across our province, we're deploying it based on the firefighters expertise. We aren't experts, they're the experts,” Ford said Friday at the provincial emergency operations centre in Toronto.
Addressing claims from Collins First Nation Chief Helen Angela Paavola that the government did not respond to requests for aid — or even warn impacted communities to evacuate in sufficient time — Ford said, “I've talked to a number of chiefs and telling them that we're there to support them. But what's a miracle is that no one's lost their lives.”
Ontario’s natural resources minister, Mike Harris, expanded on Ford’s remark, saying, “From the time the...

- “We’re on standby,” is what Defence Minister David McGuinty said Friday when asked what role the federal government will play in mitigating the wildfire situation in northwestern Ontario.
“Right now, the Province of Ontario and the Ministry of the Department of Emergency Preparedness are apparently capable to handle the situation, with some backstopping from defense,” McGuinty told reporters.
The minister continued: “If it gets to a level where they require a more direct and immediate support from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), like always, the women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces will be there,” adding the CAF was yet to receive a “formal request” to step in.
McGuinty’s remarks come one day after the Ford government requested federal support and as Premier Doug Ford faces criticism for the province’s emergency preparedness capabilities.

- Asked what guardrails the Government of Canada will have on selling arms to Saudi Arabia – a country whose human rights record has long remained in question – Defence Minister David McGuinty echoed comments from Prime Minister Mark Carney that building relations with the controversial nation were about “pursuing trade opportunities.”
“We need to engage with the world and we are engaging with the world, which is why we brought a balanced approach to our relationship in Saudi,” McGuinty said.
Despite questions of Saudi Arabia’s human rights policies, Carney met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia last Thursday, acquiring a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) and defence cooperation deal.
Asked himself about the visit last week, Carney said “lecturing” other countries on human rights would simply be “ineffective.”

- Ontario Premier Doug Ford says no expense will be spared to help people caught in the province's raging wildfires, which have forced thousands of people to flee their homes. Ontario’s government budgeted $150 million for fighting wildfires in 2026, a lot less than the $271 million that was spent the year before.
On the frontlines, firefighters have also complained for years about pay, retention issues and the number of experienced staff leaving their roles.
As Eric Sorensen reports, Ford is facing criticism for failing to properly budget for the blazes.

- Description
- U.S. President Donald Trump delivered an address to the nation on election security and government transparency Thursday evening, revisiting long-debunked conspiracy theories about his 2020 defeat to Democrat Joe Biden. The speech comes as he’s escalated his calls for Republicans to pass tighter federal voting rules ahead of November’s midterm elections.
Trump claimed that "starting during the 2020 election cycle, the People's Republic of China carried out what is believed to be the largest compromise of election data in history, resulting in China's illicit acquisition of 220 million U.S. voter files."
Trump then went on to accuse intelligence agencies, referencing them as the "deep state," of covering up China’s attempt to disrupt U.S. elections. However, Trump appointed the very people who led those intelligence agencies in 2020. Indeed, Trump was given the assessment from those agencies on Jan. 7, 2021, that no foreign country tried to change vote ...

- Premier Tim Houston is continuing his summer tour of Nova Scotia – despite being swarmed by protesters. The rally turned violent as Houston was trying to leave an event in Wolfville yesterday and now police are looking to identify those involved.
In a video posted to his social media, Houston says he respects the right of the public to share their opinion and peacefully protest and how that isn’t what occurred on Wednesday.
“In trying to leave the venue, my vehicle and my team’s vehicles were swarmed by rioters – they blocked us in. They were pushing law enforcement, climbed on top of the car I was in,” The premier said.
As Skye Bryden-Blom reports, a man who filmed the confrontation says the rally offered the chance to be heard on issues like the environment and indigenous rights.

- Wildfire smoke from Canada blanketed Chicago on Thursday, reducing visibility and sending air quality to unhealthy levels. The hazy conditions prompted many people to wear masks and limit their time outdoors.
“It's wild, because when you look outside, you think its fog and its completely covered the city but it's smoke because when we walk outside, it burns," said Stephaine Villanova, who was with her dad in downtown Chicago celebrating his 68th birthday.
"It stings a little bit and we both have respiratory issues with COPD and asthma, so it's really hard to breathe a little." Another Chicagoan, Louis Lee, said the thick air left his eyes watering.
"My eyes are literally getting misty and it's drying out my contacts," said Lee. "It's almost like smoking cigarettes all day without even having to go get Newports, man. This is insane, bro.”

Meanwhile, the latest American blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is forcing ships to turn around or risk being disabled in what appears to be a further deterioration of ceasefire talks.
But the fiery rhetoric between both sides comes amid a brief moment of diplomacy where Donald Trump hailed the release of a U.S. citizen in Iran as a "gesture of goodwill." Reggie Cecchini has more.

- More than 60 years ago, Major Singh Bhandal and Surinderjit Kaur Bhandal exchanged vows to spend their life together — a promise they kept to their very devastating end.
“What happened Monday night was a complete tragedy,” said grandson Lali Toor on Wednesday, outside the fire-ravaged north Edmonton apartment building where the Bhandals lived and also died.
The elderly couple were residents of the building at the corner of 132 Avenue and 82 Street in the Killarney neighbourhood, where a car lost control and crashed into the building.
A gas mainline was hit during the collision, causing an explosion and fire that sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky.
