- In his budget address, John Cortes has announced plans to expand Gibraltar’s education infrastructure, confirming work is underway to add an extra floor to both Notre Dame and St Anne’s Schools to meet growing demand in the north district.
He said plans are also progressing for a new upper school at St Martin’s School, allowing pupils with additional needs to remain there until the age of 18.
Mr Cortes highlighted the new Gibraltar College at Europa Point as one of the Government’s biggest education investments, and said work at St Joseph’s Schools is expected to finish next September.
He also announced 49 new teaching posts and committed the Government to continue its investment in teachers, SEND provision, safeguarding and learning support, while exploring the use of artificial intelligence in education.

- Opposition housing spokesman Damon Bossino has condemned what he described as the Government’s failure to honour its electoral commitments on housing. He questioned what had become of its pledge to eradicate the housing waiting list and to build “affordable housing stock at an approximate rate of 200 units per year”.
He also highlighted the failure to deliver additional housing on Road to the Lines, describing the project as one that had been passed from ministry to ministry as a “hot potato”.
Mr Bossino criticised, what he termed, the “bonkers” Bassadone building deal, which he said is costing £92,000 a month in rent and reflects what he sees as the Government’s obsession with moving public departments into private premises.

Employment on the Rock recorded an all time high of over 32 thousand employee jobs on the Rock.
Fabian Picardo said earnings rose this year by 5.8 per cent in cash terms and by 2.8 per cent in real terms, after inflation.
He said raising the minimum wage is something his Government had done over the past 15 years because, he said, a rising economy that does not reach the lowest-paid is no achievement at all.

- The Attorney General has denied a request from the RGP for a prosecution to be brought against the former Police Commissioner Ian McGrail for misconduct in public office and offences under the Data Protection Act 2004. This is regarding data that Mr McGrail copied or caused to be copied onto a hard drive whilst he was still Commissioner and which he kept for over two years after leaving office.
Counsel in London has backed his decision on the grounds that proceeding would not be in the public interest.
In answer to GBC questions Michael Llamas KC confirmed he had addressed a request made to him for prosecution against Ian McGrail by John McVea, the then RGP's Senior Investigating Officer for a reported data breach in the McGrail Inquiry.

And the coldest temperature officially verified by the Gibraltar Met Office? A very chilly 0.6°C in February 1954.
So far this year, the hottest day was the 28th of June, when temperatures reached 30.8°C.
June also appears to have been around 1–2°C warmer than average, although not enough to challenge any records.
