The debate will focus on the effectiveness of the EU anti-circumvention tool, adopted with the EU's 11th package of sanctions and designed to prevent Russia from acquiring goods for its defence industry. Members will also discuss additional measures to prevent Russia from accessing western military technologies, components and dual-use goods, via non-EU countries, such as China.

She will be joined by Frances Fitzgerald leading member of the European Parliament's report on the Combating Violence Against Women Directive, the next set of rules to come from the EU aimed at protecting women and promoting gender equality.
Parliament wants to make sure that the Directive helps protect women in a variety of ways, including a consent-based definition of rape, tougher rules on cyber violence, and better support for victims such as free legal support, and enhanced reporting and evidence gathering.
Violence directed against women because of their gender, or that affects women disproportionately (also known as gender-based violence against women) is a violation of their fundamental rights, and a major obstacle to gender equality in all EU member states. Despite increa...

The initiative calls for an EU ban on the keeping and killing of animals for the sole or main purpose of fur production. The organisers also seek to prohibit selling fur from these animals, as well as products containing their fur across the European Union.
The Fur Free Europe initiative collected 1,502,319 valid signatures from all EU countries. Parliament's agricultural, internal market and petitions committees held a public hearing on it on 12 October 2023.
The European citizens' initiative is a tool that allows people to ask the European Commission to take action on a particular issue. On Saturday 7 October, terrorists belonging to the Hamas militant group launched a surprise attack on Israel from Gaza, killing hundreds of Israeli civilians and soldiers across towns in the southern part of the country and taking many hostages.
“The reality on the ground is horrific, tragic and desperate”, said President Metsola on Monday, in the opening of the plenary session, in Strasbourg (France).

In a resolution adopted on 5 October, MEPs strongly condemned the unjustified military offensive while highlighting that the Armenian exodus amounted to ethnic cleansing. They also called on the EU to reassess its relations with Azerbaijan and, among other things, to suspend the current Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy between the EU and the country.
Pashinyan has been Prime Minister of Armenia since May 2018.

So far there have been 11 sanctions packages, targeting key sectors of the country's economy and its political elites.
Moscow has, however, found ways to bypass these measures, by using intermediaries and loopholes in trade restrictions.
MEPs will discuss with representatives from the European Commission and the Council whether the EU’s sanctions against Russia are working, and how to prevent Moscow from exploiting loopholes.
A resolution will be voted in the coming days.

- Members of the European Parliament will debate and vote on a €50 billion facility to support Ukraine's recovery, reconstruction and modernisation from 2024 to 2027.
Parliament members have improved the proposal by strengthening transparency and democratic accountability. One of their key demands was that Russian assets should be used to fund Ukraine’s reconstruction.
As the Ukraine Facility is part of the ongoing revision of the long-term EU budget, members of the European Parliament insist that the Facility, along with the entire budgetary revision, should be agreed as soon as possible, as currently there are no provisions for assistance to Ukraine from 2024. The package should be integrated also into the EU's budget for next year, to be negotiated in November 2023.
