Parliament has repeatedly raised the issue of gender-based violence and is currently in negotiations with EU countries on draft legislation to tackle violence against women and domestic violence. One in ten women in the EU has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 15, and one in 20 women has been raped, according to data collected by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights in 2014.

Following Hamas’ deadly attack against Israel on 7 October 2023, which claimed the lives of around 1,200 people and resulted in more than 200 people being taken hostage, Israel declared war against the terrorist group. According to the Hamas-run health ministry, more than 11,000 Palestinians have so far been killed.

These new rules on packaging and packaging waste would ban the sale of very light weight plastic carrier bags, unless required for hygiene reasons and the use of intentionally added so-called forever chemicals (per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances or PFASs) and Bisphenol A in food contact packaging. - Parliament will hold a debate on the European citizens’ initiative Fur Free Europe to ban the rearing and killing of animals exclusively for fur production in the EU.
The initiative calls for an EU ban on the keeping and killing of animals for the sole or main purpose of fur production. The organisers also seek to prohibit selling fur from these animals, as well as products containing their fur across the European Union.
The Fur Free Europe initiative collected 1,502,319 valid signatures from all EU countries. Parliament's agricultural, internal market and petitions committees held a public hearing on it on 12 October 2023.
The European citizens' initiative is a tool that allows people to ask the European Commission to take action on a particular issue. - MEPs discuss with Council and Commission "the despicable terrorist attacks of Hamas against Israel, the country’s right to defend itself in line with humanitarian and international law and the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip" ahead of the vote on a resolution.
On Saturday 7 October, terrorists belonging to the Hamas militant group launched a surprise attack on Israel from Gaza, killing hundreds of Israeli civilians and soldiers across towns in the southern part of the country and taking many hostages.
“The reality on the ground is horrific, tragic and desperate”, said President Metsola on Monday, in the opening of the plenary session, in Strasbourg (France).

- Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to the European Parliament takes place in the aftermath of Azerbaijan’s military attack and recapture of the breakaway enclave Nagorno-Karabakh on 19 September, which forced over 100,000 ethnic Armenians living in the area to flee their homes.
In a resolution adopted on 5 October, MEPs strongly condemned the unjustified military offensive while highlighting that the Armenian exodus amounted to ethnic cleansing. They also called on the EU to reassess its relations with Azerbaijan and, among other things, to suspend the current Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy between the EU and the country.
Pashinyan has been Prime Minister of Armenia since May 2018.
