- This week, Beyond Game Day is asking one question: when history opens the door, who actually walks through?
Thabiso Sithole and Vata Ngobeni start with Comrades, where Gerda Steyn’s dominance has moved from impressive to era-defining. The hosts ask whether she is now beyond debate as South Africa’s greatest ultra-marathon runner, while George Kusche’s record-breaking maiden win gives the men’s race a new name to watch.
Then comes Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari red. His first win for the team has the hosts debating whether Ferrari should chase the constructors’ title, or throw everything behind Hamilton’s push for an eighth world championship.
But Bafana Bafana carry the emotional weight of the episode. After criticism following Mexico, South Africa’s response against Czechia showed character, fight and a lifeline. Now South Korea waits, Mokoena is suspended, and being at the World Cup is no longer enough.

- Youth Day is remembered as a day of courage, resistance and sacrifice. But what changes when South Africa stops calling the young people of 1976 “youth” and remembers that many of them were children?
Gareth Edwards speaks to Samke Mnguni, Youth Leadership Programme Manager at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, about why that distinction matters.
Mnguni argues that language can shape responsibility. If children are described only as “youth”, society may give them agency they had not yet grown into, while adults and institutions step away from their duty to protect, support and guide them.
The conversation connects 1976 to today’s South Africa. Gareth and Samke unpack youth unemployment, the gap between access and real opportunity, the burden placed on families and teachers, online harm, risky behaviour among children, and the need for more honest, age-appropriate conversations.

Gareth Edwards and Francis Herd unpack why this number is so politically and economically loaded. Francis explains that the money is not being presented as reparations, and the U.S. has pushed back against claims that American taxpayers
would directly pay Iran. Instead, the proposed fund is reportedly private, with investors from several regions already showing interest.
That changes the question.
Is this peace money, or an economic comeback package for Iran?
