“The thing I want to tell people most of all, is that they’re not alone,” Buttigieg said of why he wrote the book. “The reason I open up so much in the book, is because, so often, people in politics don’t share those kinds of truths or vulnerabilities, they don’t take chances, and that’s not the kind of book I wanted to write, I wanted to take some risks, and just share who I really am.”
Part of sharing who he is, meant Buttigieg used the book to open up about how he came out to his family - writing them a letter before running away from home.
“I think, many times the story we’re so used to hearing is the parents kick the kids out, the kid runs away,” Buttigieg recalled. “I grew up in conservative Northern Michigan, and my parents didn’t k...

During this DNC week, we kicked off this week's conversation by talking about the virtual nature of this year's event.
“It worked, in fact, you could hear the speeches a little better, and hear the content, the expression, without all the atmospherics, the applauding, the hijinks, and all the rest,” Brown said, admitting that going virtual did remove some of the excitement.
The conversation turned to the Democratic nominee himself, former Vice President Joe Biden.
Brown and Biden entered elected office within two months of each other, Biden as a member of Delaware’s New Castle County Council in November 1970, and Brown as California’s Secretary of State in January 1971.

- We're joined by California Congressman Eric Swalwell, whose new book, "Endgame: Inside the Impeachment of Donald J. Trump," gives a behind-the-scene look at the third impeachment in our nation’s history, of which Swalwell had a front-row seat.
Swalwell responds to claims by John Bolton that Democrats committed "impeachment malpractice.”
“He’s wrong,” Swalwell said. “The title of his book is The Room Where it Happened, he was nowhere near, sadly, the room where it happened. The room where it happened, is where I sat, and listened to people like Marie Yovanovitch, Fiona Hill, Lt. Col. Vindman, give sworn testimony by raising their right hand, going under oath, and speaking truth to power.”
Swalwell added that Bolton’s actions remind him of a firefighter who shows up only after the building has already burned down. Still though, the new allegations laid out in Bolton’s book cannot be ignored, Swalwell said, which is why Rep. Adam Sc...

- Description
- Congressman Adam Schiff reacts to President Donald Trump's decision to commutate the sentence of Roger Stone:"the only remedy is to vote him out of office in November.
He added: "the message Donald Trump is sending is, if you cover up for me, I will protect you."
Stone was convicted for lying before Schiff's House Intelligence Committee. He will now not serve his 3 year prison sentence.
Adam Schiff says this is proof "there are two justice systems in America, one for cronies of the President and one for everybody else."
The Democrat from Burbank is concerned about the possibility of President Trump being even more emboldened in a second term.
He worries that the President is using the Stone commutation as a way to distract from his own mismanagement of the coronavirus pandemic.
Schiff wants Senate Republicans to pass the "HEROES Act" & give trillions in relief to Americans impeacted by COVID 19.

- We speak to Dr. Anthony Fauci re: coronavirus and Rep. Karen Bass about race & policing.
DR. ANTHONY FAUCI:
California communities are re-opening despite the fact that coronavirus cases are growing in many areas.
Dr. Fauci cautioned that California, like the country as a whole, is large, and that the same blanket standards may not be applicable in all reopening efforts, but that following the national benchmarks and guidelines is the best policy.
“As public health officials, we recommend very, very clearly that the states, the cities, and those who make the decisions at the local levels abide by those guidelines as a framework by which to act,” Fauci said. “There are certain core things that shouldn’t change.”
So how would Fauci qualify California’s rise in cases, a blip or a rebound? Fauci did not want to commit to whether the spike indicated that reopening efforts were being undertaken too rapidly o...

We also talk about reform efforts, Black Lives Matter - Los Angeles protesters, police unions & her personal reaction to George Floyd's death.
We began by discussing her decision to prosecute LAPD Officer Frank Hernandez, who was caught on video punching a homeless man...and why she's not charging the female officer who watched it all unfold...and did nothing to stop it.
We also dive deep into the case of Kenneth Ross Jr., a Gardena man shot by police back in 2018. Lacey explains why she decided against prosecuted the officer.
Some critics have argued that D.A.'s are too close with police...and thus charging them should be up to an independent prosecutor.
Lacey argues that an independent prosecutor is not necessary & that unions have a right to spend politically.
The District Attorney also ope...

- It is with sadness that I announce the passing of my friend, Nanci Ryder. She died surrounded by loved ones after a brave battle with ALS.
Nanci was one of the biggest publicists in Hollywood. She co-founded BWR Public Relations & represented clients like Renee Zellweger, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael J. Fox, Courteney Cox, Reese Witherspoon & more.
Six years ago, I met Nanci shortly after she was diagnosed. She was hilarious, a bit crude, generous, kind, talented, and warm.
She was the leader of the just formed Team Nanci Ryder.
Year after year, we'd meet at the The ALS Association Golden West Chapter Walk to Defeat ALS & various events throughout the year. Her team would raise over $800,000 for the cause--more than any other group.
Even though Nanci lost the ability to speak, she never lost the ability to think, joke, and love.
I was deeply touched by knowing her & hope she's now at peace & able to move again....

- At a Black Lives Matter protest in the Fairfax District, actor & activist Kendrick Sampson was hit by LAPD officers.
"The police shot us with rubber bullets...I got shot 7 times...I have skin hanging off my leg still...I'm healing."
Samspon says several of his friends were injured as well.
He's supporting a plan to "Defund the Police." He'd rather the funds be used instead for other purposes like mental health, housing, education, etc.
"People are handling way too many situations that they shouldn't handle."
"The foundation of the system is in slave catching. We need a new system."
Sampson believes a smaller, tactical force could deal with serious, violent crimes & many lesser violations don't have to be addressed by armed officers.
Sampson is joined by former LAPD Sgt. Cheryl Dorsey & Doctor Drew Pinsky on our FOX 11 7pm Special Report. The show is co-hosted by Elex Michaelson
