The Governing Council continues to expect the key ECB interest rates to remain at present or lower levels for an extended period of time, and well past the horizon of the net asset purchases.

- The Generation €uro Students' Award is a competition open to secondary school students organised by the European Central Bank (ECB) and the euro area National Central Banks (NCBs). Students compete in three separate rounds encompassing an online quiz, an analysis and a presentation given by the finalists to a jury of central bank experts.
This video shows highlights of the presentation round for European and international schools (12 and 13 April 2016) and the European Award Event (20 and 21 April 2016) where the winning teams from across Europe met ECB President Mario Draghi and the respective NCB Governors at the ECB in Frankfurt am Main.

(1) The interest rate on the main refinancing operations of the Eurosystem will be decreased by 5 basis points to 0.00%, starting from the operation to be settled on 16 March 2016.
(2) The interest rate on the marginal lending facility will be decreased by 5 basis points to 0.25%, with effect from 16 March 2016.
(3) The interest rate on the deposit facility will be decreased by 10 basis points to -0.40%, with effect from 16 March 2016.
(4) The monthly purchases under the asset purchase programme will be expanded to €80 billion starting in April.
(5) Investment grade euro-denominated bonds issued by non-bank corporations established in the euro area will be included in the list of assets that are eligible for regular purchases.
