- After three decades of dedicating his life to nature, local advocate Don Wallace has a piece of nature dedicated to him. The Don Wallace Multi-Use Trail Connector is the first in L.A. County to enable safe passage under the 101 Freeway, and will provide future connectivity to Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority trails, the Las Virgenes Creek trails, as well as the Malibu Creek State Park system. The trail was officially dedicated by Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, along with Wallace and Department of Parks and Recreation officials.

- L.A. County's top word warriors faced off in sudden death competition recently at the 13th annual Elementary Spelling Bee. Students in grades 4-6 came from across L.A. County to show off their mastery of words like "subtract" and "lucrative."
