- Jayden Scurlock, a senior on Sam Houston High School’s football team, has been selected as the City of Arlington’s Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2025.
Scurlock, a captain for the Texans, was selected 2nd Team All-District his junior year.
“Jayden leads by example,” said Chris James, Sam Houston High School Head Football Coach. “He’s the first on in the building and the last one to leave. He’s a soft spoken kid. When he’s not on the field and when he gets on the field and puts the helmet on, he’s going 90 mph.”
After he graduates, Jayden plans on attending Texas Christian University and plans on majoring in Environmental Science.

Terry Montesi, CEO of Trademark Property Company, recently spoke with MyArlingtonTV about how the redevelopment will create extra parking, better north-south traffic flow, walkability, upgraded facades and add public gathering spaces with artwork.
"It'll feel much more like an organic village that's walkable and interesting with outdoor seating, public spaces, intentional landscaped areas, new public art, a new beautiful entry and freeway signage. It'll look like a modern retail village,” said Montesi.

- The Arlington Tennis Center is now serving up a major upgrade — brand-new, high-efficiency LED lighting that transforms the playing experience for competitors and spectators alike.
Originally, each court was equipped with six light fixtures. Today, that number has doubled to 12 per court, bringing the total from 132 to 264 light heads across the facility. Each 500-watt LED unit produces approximately 8,000 lumens — totaling an impressive 96,000 lumens per court. The result: dramatically improved visibility, consistency, and performance for evening play.
This upgrade elevates Arlington Tennis Center to Class II lighting standards, suitable for NCAA championship-level events.

The George W. Hawkes Downtown Library location at 100 S. Center St. has equipment and expertise to help you digitize four kinds of video tapes, two type of audio cassettes, 8mm film, photos, negatives, slides, and more so you can preserve and share them.
To begin, request an appointment with library staff.
What to Know:
Video and audio transfers occur in real-time, and you'll need to be present for the entire process.
The Library assumes no risk in potential damage to your old media, but all reasonable care will be taken.
Pack a USB stick or upload your new files to a cloud service.
To use the Retro Technology Lab, you must be an Arlington Public Library cardholder.

This project is a key step in updating Arlington’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan and creating the City’s first comprehensive Sidewalk Master Plan.
