- Residents in East Arlington are beginning to see a new water tower on the horizon. Arlington Water Utilities has started construction of a new water tower, or elevated storage tank, on City-owned land just east of the East Arlington Police Services Center, 2001 New York Ave. The new water tower is being built to increase the amount of elevated water storage in the water distribution system. Landmark Structures, which is headquartered in Southlake, is the construction contractor. They’re expected to finish the tower in late 2027.
The new tower will hold 2.5 million gallons of water. Like other water towers, the new structure will help the City of Arlington maintain distribution system pressure and meet water demands. It will also help Arlington fulfill storage requirements set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). - “An Arlington Tribute” by David Lovrien, with Narrator Jody Dean. Narrative Text by OK Carter
In 2018, Texas Country Reporter co-hosts Bob and Kelli Phillips asked composer David Lovrien to create a symphonic program where they could narrate stories of Texas history and culture. What emerged from this project was A Texas Tribute, a seven movement work celebrating the spirit of Texas. It was first performed by the Wichita Falls Symphony in 2021, and the band version of the piece was premiered by the Dallas Winds the same year. Following that, it went on a well-received state-wide tour in 2022. Three of the movements, in what we’re calling An Arlington Tribute, have been used with permission by David Lovrien to honor the 150 years of the city’s history.
