- Mark Ramos, a senior on Sam Houston High School’s baseball team, has been selected as the City of Arlington’s Student-Athlete of the Month for March 2026.
Ramos stands out both in the classroom and on the field. He ranks in the top four percent of his graduating class and earned First-Team All-District honors for his performance in baseball.
"He’s the first person to cheer someone on," Elijah Perez, Sam Houston High School Head Baseball Coach said. "Whether he’s doing bad or not, you couldn’t tell. He’s just a great teammate."
Ramos, whose favorite subject is math, plans to continue playing baseball in college while pursuing a degree in secondary education.

- Adaugo Onyekwere, a senior on Lamar High School’s wrestling team, has been selected as the City of Arlington’s Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2026.
Onyekwere, who's ranked in the top three percent of her class, has made it to Regionals in wrestling all four years of high school and broke through her senior year, competing at the state tournament.
"One of the biggest takeaways in wrestling was feeling confident," Onyekwere said. "No matter how big or small you are or how great you are wrestling. It's just you, yourself on the mat and you're putting everything that you got out there."
Onyekwere has already received an Associate degree while at Lamar and plans on studying to become a Pediatrician after graduation.

- The community celebrating the grand opening of Fire Station No. 8 in North Arlington on Feb. 20, 2026.
The two-story, 13,725-square-foot facility, located at 2020 Madison Drive, was approved by Arlington voters in the 2018 Bond Program.
During the grand opening event, community members toured the new Fire Station No. 8, which includes three drive-through apparatus bays, dorm rooms for firefighters, a day room and kitchen. The $13.9 million facility replaced the former Fire Station No. 8 station, which was smaller and originally opened in 1978.
The new fire station also incorporates cancer awareness best practices, including extractors to wash the firefighters bunker gear, a system to remove exhaust fumes. In addition, it has a cascade system for filling breathing air cylinders.

- Isaac Salas, a senior on Martin High School’s soccer team, has been selected as the City of Arlington’s Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2026.
Salas, a forward for the Warriors, has left his mark all over the field.
“He’s changed his position this year from left back to midfield to forward,” said Joey Lockhart, Martin High School Head Soccer Coach. “He’s effective all over the place because he’s thinking about how the game changes.”
When in the classroom, Salas’ favorite subject is Environmental Science, but outside of the classroom, the soccer pitch teaches him life lessons.
“Overall the mentality that the sport has given me, even after a poor performance, I can be able to get right back up and learn from it and keep going,” said Salas.

He leads a Capital Improvement Project (CIP) crew that installs new water and wastewater mains and replaces water and wastewater mains throughout the City, in addition to routine field operations duties like responding to emergencies. The crew’s work includes trenchless pipe bursting, horizontal directional drilling, and open-cut pipe replacements.
