Elizabeth outlines that although the candidates themselves may not be bringing much new to the elections, the process itself is vital as Nigeria continues to develop its democratic foundations.
Security in the country remains a key issue to be tackled, as does the economy because, although the recent recession appears to be at an end, concerns remain around jobs, cost of living, and food prices.

- Raj Patel explains that when people are systematically mistaken about what other people think this can sustain a practice and make collective action harder.
Raj talks about how surveying social norms can expose assumptions among individuals that certain behaviours are widely accepted, whereas in reality acceptance is low. Challenging these false beliefs can hugely improve the impact of collective action in changing behaviour.
He also outlines how societal change can happen quickly (within a single generation) because enough people’s values change at once or there is a realization that a majority within society feel the same way about certain behaviours.

- Description
- Dr Leena Koni Hoffmann explains how the environment in which someone lives or works can be a powerful driver of corrupt behaviour, and discusses the value of social norms research and interventions.
She outlines why a lack of incentives to avoid corruption can increase the likelihood of it occurring, and that little research has been done into why corruption happens and what informs or influences the decisions behind it.
The survey work undertaken by the Africa Programme's Social Norms and Accountable Governance (SNAG) project is pioneering in this regard, and is showcasing why messaging around corruption is vital in tackling it.
Driving a collective change in behaviour can be achieved through careful planning, developing and testing of small-scale interventions before scaling up.

The village of Moria has an economy based on agriculture and livestock, and initially local fields were being destroyed because the refugees and migrants had to cut down olive trees to get wood for cooking food and to keep warm.
But he says these criminal acts were a result of inadequate planning and that conditions were harsh because it was during winter and the refugees were all sleeping in tents.

While attribution remains a sovereign political decision and should be established in accordance with international law, there is a clear consensus between like-minded states that malicious cyber activities need to be brought to light, coupled with other tailored measures, which would alter the perpetrating state’s risk-calculation.
On the cyber diplomacy level, the French president has recently launched the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace. It has been supported by 370 states, companies and civil society entit...

There is also a common opportunity before them – of a diversified and developed economy. Nigeria’s long-term outlook will ultimately depend upon the ability of leaders to deliver substantive and sustainable progress far beyond the election campaigns.
