The calf, born just two weeks earlier in the Leschenault Estuary, died after showing signs of respiratory distress.
Drone footage filmed by Geographe Marine Research on July 19 and 20 shows the mother, known as "Fraggle," continuing to carry her offspring while other dolphins appeared to stay nearby.
Researchers said dolphins typically mourn for several days or up to a week, but Fraggle carried her calf for 11 days. It was also the fourth consecutive calf she has lost, according to the research group.

A zoo spokesperson said on August 4 that Japan's hot and humid summer climate, unlike Africa's dry heat, is difficult for lions to adapt to.

- CCTV has captured the moment a passenger train crashed into a farm trailer after a tractor driver stopped on a level crossing in Poland.
Footage released by Polish State Railways (PKP) shows the tractor crossing the tracks as barriers lowered and warning lights flashed before coming to a stop with its trailers still on the railway. The train then ploughed through the trailers.
PKP said the tractor driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported, but officials said the incident put around 500 people at risk.
