- Evaluate: Using Hand Hygiene Data for Action
- Runtime
- 5:54
- Date posted
- Description
- This video describes various observation and auditing techniques for facilities to incorporate into their hand hygiene program to improve adherence. Credible data are obtained through a variety of methods, often used together. Direct overt observation evaluates demonstrations of skill where lapses can be corrected immediately. Indirect covert observation is often called the “Secret Shopper” method, and mechanisms should be put in place to address non-adherence immediately following a lapse in hand cleaning. Other methods include automated data collection for continuous monitoring and conducting routine environmental evaluations of the functionality of hand cleaning supplies. Communicating the results back to the frontline is a critical part of engaging personnel, improving adherence, and preventing infections. The Hand Hygiene Foundations Learning Series consists of four videos and was developed in partnership with the American Hospital Association (AHA).

The video is for parents of young children and for anyone who cannot swallow pills. These instructions should ONLY be used during an anthrax emergency and ONLY with the doxycycline tablets that health officials provided. The video shows how to soak the doxycycline tablet in some water to make it easier to crush; how to measure the right amount of doxycycline according to how much the child weighs; and how to mix the doxycycline with food or a drink to make it easier to swallow. If a child has been given doxycycline tablets to take during this emergency, parents should have also received written doxycycline tablet crushing instructions that show them this process.

Nigeria has Africa’s largest population with 216 million people and has been severely impacted by COVID-19. CDC and Nigeria worked together to respond and save lives. US-CDC provided help with epidemiology (detecting disease), laboratory, surveillance, case management, infection prevention and control, risk communications, and vaccine uptake and safety. CDC utilized the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) to teach public health emergency management to more than 200 frontline responders. Nigeria was then able to set up Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) services at the country’s points of entry, including airports, seaports, and land borders, to help control the spread of COVID-19. These investments will continue to be valuable to keep up the COVID-19 r...
