- Description
- Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) has reportedly lost over P88 million to copper cable theft in the past five years ,a figure recently shared in Parliament. But beyond the numbers lies a persistent and growing challenge: vandalism of critical infrastructure. Cable theft continues to cripple electricity supply, disrupt essential services and drain national resources. This discussion shifts the focus from parliamentary debate to the real issue , the widespread problem of infrastructure vandalism, its impact on national development and, importantly, how the public can play a more active role in combating it. With communities often being the first to witness suspicious activity, collective responsibility and public vigilance are key to protecting the country's vital infrastructure.

- IMPLICATIONS OF THE SA COURT RULING OVER PRESIDENT LUNGU'S BURIAL IN ZAMBIA On Friday, South Africa’s high court ordered that former Zambian President Edgar Lungu’s body be repatriated to Zambia for a state funeral, overruling his family’s wish to bury him in South Africa without the presence of his successor, President Hakainde Hichilema. The family opposed President Hichilema attending the funeral due to political rivalry, but the Zambian government insisted on a state funeral in Lusaka, following established protocol. The questions that arise are: How will this ruling affect political tensions between the current government and Lungu’s supporters and what are the wider implications for regional relations? - Description
- Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is becoming more common in Botswana, but responses are often shaped by stigma, affecting both survivors and those accused. Some survivors remain silent for fear of being judged or not believed, while others face various pressures that prevent them from speaking out. At the same time, individuals accused of IPV may experience social backlash even before the facts are established. These challenges make it harder for people to seek help and for communities to engage in open conversations about the issue. We discuss new research by the University of Botswana and the Botswana Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Support Centre, which explores how stigma influences help-seeking behavior and aims to foster honest, inclusive dialogue about the real barriers to support.

More than a cultural event, the festival serves as a living tribute to the spirit of unity, resilience, and cultural pride that defined the Botswana people’s fight for their land and dignity.
