Description: The war memorial at the former Mitchells and Butlers brewery remains today on what is now a housing estate in Cape Hill.
The memorial was unveiled at the M&B site in 1922. The brewery was founded when Henry Mitchell and William Butler teamed up and later moved to the Cape Hill site in 1879 where it brewed beer until 2002. This became the main site and even had its own railway network. The most famous beer was Brew XI and carried the slogan, 'For the men of the Midlands'. The site is now houses but the company is still going and runs around 1,700 pubs, bars and restaurants today with their headquarters still based in Birmingham.
Listed are the names of the workers who went off to fight in two world wars and did not return.

The duo blanked out the deafening noise after smashing their way in using crowbars to break through the security shutters.
The crooks also broke the glass window of the front door as the hooded burglars went behind the counter and filled their bags with loot.
It was only after the alarm got louder after 50 seconds that they flinched.
They then hurried along and fled the shop in Kilburn High Road, Kilburn, north London.
It happened just after 4:20am last Friday (9 Jan), as reported on NeedToKnow.

Description: A wanted man who tried to hide from police in gardens was arrested after he became stuck on a shed roof.
The 31-year-old, who was wanted for recall to prison, fled after failing to stop for police in Moorends in Doncaster but was caught when he found himself stuck on top of a garden shed.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife or bladed article and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
A 20-year-old man, who also attempted to flee from officers in the same incident, was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop and drug possession offences. Police located two stolen vehicles and returned them to their owners.
