- President Trump has said the month-long ceasefire between the US and Iran is on "massive life support". He described Iran’s response to US proposals to end the war as “garbage” and “totally unacceptable”, telling reporters: "That piece of garbage they sent us - I didn't even finish reading it,"
Iran laid out its demands to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a counter-offer sent to the US on Sunday. Esmail Baghaei, a foreign ministry spokesperson for Iran, responded to Trump’s comments, saying Tehran's proposals were "responsible" and "generous".
Tehran's offer includes an immediate end to the war on all fronts - a reference to the continued Israeli attacks against Iran-supported Hezbollah in Lebanon - a halt to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports and guarantees of no further attacks on Iran, according to Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency. It also reportedly includes a demand for compensation for war damage and an emphasis on ...

- The British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dismissed calls for his resignation in an address to the country, just days after his governing Labour party suffered significant losses in local elections. "I know I have my doubters, and I know I need to prove them wrong, and I will", he said.
The BBC's UK political correspondent Rob Watson tells us that Mr Starmer appears to have staved off any immediate challenges from his potential rivals, but that his premiership is still at risk in the long term. More than 50 Labour members of parliament have called for Mr Starmer to step down.
Analysts say the prime minister remains unpopular with his party and the country. The Labour government is under increasing pressure from the right-wing Reform party, led by Nigel Farage, and left-wing Green party led by Zack Polanski, who are gaining support with voters.

- Why America’s CIA coup in Iran haunts both countries | The Global Story

- Description
- At the outset of the war in Iran, US President Donald Trump suggested that regime change was one of its goals. He later said it had been had achieved, a claim that is disputed by critics who point out that the same repressive forces in Iran still hold power.
American attempts at regime change in Iran have a long history. In 1953 the CIA, assisted by British intelligence, led a deadly coup that toppled Iran’s last democratically elected leader. It’s a moment in history that poisoned US-Iranian relations, and helped launch the theocratic revolution to come. But the immediate success of ‘Operation Ajax’ would convince the CIA to carry out a wave of similar plots around the world.

- A passenger of a cruise ship that was struck by an outbreak of hantavirus has shown symptoms of the disease while being repatriated to France, the country's prime minister has said.
Sébastien Lecornu said the French national developed symptoms while on a chartered flight from Tenerife to Paris, and so all five evacuated from the MV Hondius had been "immediately placed in strict isolation until further notice”.
Meanwhile, twenty Britons are beginning 45 days of self-isolation in the UK at Arrowe Park Hospital on Merseyside after being evacuated from the ship and flown to Manchester.
They will stay there for 72 hours, before being asked to self-isolate for a further 42 days at home.

- The Argentinian city of Ushuaia is facing suggestions that it could be ground zero for the hantavirus outbreak on the Dutch vessel MV Hondius.
Three people have died following the outbreak on the ship, including two of the six people whom the World Health Organization has confirmed have had hantavirus.
The other confirmed cases include two British nationals, who are being treated in the Netherlands and South Africa.
Hantavirus is a group of viruses carried by rodents. Most do not pass from person to person, but the Andes strain identified in a number of people who had been on the Dutch cruise ship, does.

- President Trump has dismissed Iran's response to US proposals to end the war as "totally unacceptable".
Iran media reported that its response included proposals for an immediate end to the war on all fronts, a halt to a US naval blockade and guarantees of no further attacks on Iran.
Trump posted on the Truth Social platform: "I have just read the response from Iran's so-called "Representatives." I don't like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE."
US proposals are reported to include a suspension on Iranian nuclear enrichment, the lifting of sanctions, and restoring free transit of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has continued to block the Strait of Hormuz - leading to a rise in world oil prices. The US, for its part, has been enforcing a blockade of Iranian ports to exert pressure on Tehran to agree to its terms - a move that has infuriated Iran.

- Vladimir Putin has used his annual Victory Day speech in Moscow, marking the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany in the Second World War, to justify his war in Ukraine and denounce Nato.
He was speaking as he oversaw a scaled-back parade on Red Square, held under heavy security, with fears of a Ukrainian attack and growing public concern in Russia over the war.
For the first time in years, no armoured vehicles or ballistic missiles featured in Moscow's Victory Day parade. They were instead shown large TV screens.
The Russian president said he was fighting a "just" war and called Ukraine an "aggressive force" that is being "armed and supported by the whole bloc of Nato".
His remarks come amid muted celebrations across Russia to mark the nation's biggest national holiday.
Ahead of the celebrations Russia and Ukraine agreed to observe a three-day ceasefire, announced by US President Donald Trump on Friday.
