- Less than a week after Hoover’s planning and zoning commission rejected their proposal, school leaders for the Islamic Academy of Alabama told the city that they were rescinding their application.
The planning and zoning commission issued its rejection, which is advisory, following a hearing where several residents said they didn’t want the Muslim school in their community.
The day after the hearing, Tuberville appeared on an Infowars podcast, to decry Islam and the school. He said there was no room for Muslims in Alabama and called the religion a cult that was a threat to America.
The Islamic Academy of Alabama, which has existed for nearly 30 years, sought to relocate from its current facility in Homewood to a larger, more modern building in a Hoover office park.

Gunter has been held on $750,000 bond since his arrest.

Speculation that Gunter acted in self-defense during a domestic dispute was later disproven by evidence.
At a bond hearing earlier this week, according to publish reports, the victim asked that the charges against his stepson be dropped.

- The SEC will increase its football scholarship limit to 105, according to a report Friday by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.
The House lawsuit settlement finalized last summer allowed schools to have a maximum of 105 scholarship players, but the SEC at the time voted to remain at 85. After another vote, the limit increased to 105.
Several other conferences — including the Big Ten and Big 12 — have already increased their scholarship limit to 105, so the SEC will now be in line with those leagues.
Schools are not required to go to 105 scholarships if they choose, but are now free to do so. It was not immediately clear if the limits would go into effect for the spring semester or for the 2026 season.

- U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala) joined Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) to reintroduce the NIH IMPROVE Act, which would ensure consistent funding for research on maternal care and mortality.
In 2019, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched the Implementing a Maternal Health and Pregnancy Outcomes Vision for Everyone (IMPROVE) Initiative.
IMPROVE supports research to reduce preventable causes of maternal deaths and improve health care for women before, during, and after pregnancy.
The program currently lacks a sustained funding source, Britt’s office said in a recent news release. The IMPROVE Act would authorize $73.4 million annually for seven years to support research on potential causes of maternal mortality.
“I’m proud to fight for moms and women across Alabama and America. This bipartisan legislation will support targeted funding for critical research to improve health outcomes for women throughout their pregnancy journey," ...

- The House voted Wednesday to repeal part of a new law that gives senators the ability to sue the federal government if their personal or office data is accessed without their knowledge.
Under the new law, the senators can sue for up to $500,000 in damages for each instance of data retrieval without their knowledge.
The 427-0 vote was a bipartisan rebuke after Majority Leader John Thune added the provision to the funding bill that passed earlier this month ending the nation’s longest government shutdown.
Phone records of as many as 10 senators were analyzed by the FBI in 2023 as part of an investigation into President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville previously suggested he will “sue the living hell” out of Biden administration officials who accessed his phone records.
While Tuberville characterized the situation as former President Joe Biden tapping his phone...

- Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal is one of nine installations on a list of possible sites for a new nuclear program by the U.S. Army. Redstone could receive nuclear microreactor power generators by 2030.
The small reactors are part of the Army’s Janus Program designed to deliver “secure, resilient, and reliable energy to support national defense installations and critical missions,” according to the Army.
According to Stripes.com, microreactors are generally 100 to 1,000 times smaller than a conventional nuclear reactor and can be small enough to be transported via tractor trailer.
The reactors can produce up to 50 megawatts of power and can function independently of the traditional electric grid, the site said.
The nine sites were identified through an analysis and on-site assessments that included mission-critical installations, energy requirements, power infrastructure, and technical considerations.

- Auburn professors face no legal consequences for not turning in an anti-DEI law course compliance form, but it’s unclear if they could lose their jobs.
A faculty senate meeting was held with the provost and general counsel Nov. 12 to answer lingering questions from professors about compliance forms sent to faculty on Oct. 31.
SB 129 went into effect October 1, 2024. The law bans divisive concepts, diversity, equity and inclusion offices, programming and training in public colleges and other state agencies.
Part of SB 129 states that schools can’t “require or compel students to adopt, affirm, assent to, or agree with divisive concepts.” Divisive concepts include color, religion, sex, ethnicity, or national origin.
Public organizations can lose state funding if the law is violated.
Faculty members were asked to sign the forms ensuring their courses are in compliance and aren't violating the law.

- U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, AL-01, mentioned the possibility of the National Guard being deployed in Alabama during a hearing on the topic of Restoring Law and Order in High-Crime Cities Wednesday.
In the hearing, Moore asked witnesses if cities that have had National Guard deployments have “seen improvement enough that would warrant the National Guard coming to Alabama.”
While Montgomery and Birmingham have some of the highest rates of violent crime in Alabama, both saw drops in crime over the first half of 2025.
Rafael Mangual, a senior policing fellow with conservative think tank the Manhattan Institute, told Moore that evidence suggests that while the National Guard presence has been a deterrent in cities that effect is limited.
Moore is running in the Republican primary for the Senate seat Tuberville now holds. Tuberville is foregoing a run for re-election to run for governor.

- Newly released bodycam footage shows a Fairhope police colonel confronting and arresting a 61-year-old grandmother dressed in an inflatable penis costume during a protest last month.
Footage provided to AL.com by Renea Gamble’s legal team captures Col. Andrew Babb telling Gamble her costume would not be tolerated in a “town that has values.”
Gamble’s attorneys filed a 13-page brief seeking dismissal of misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest based on the camera footage. The filing argues the arrest violated her First Amendment rights as she was engaged in political protest during the Oct. 18 “No Kings” demonstration along Greeno Road.
The case is being heard in Fairhope Municipal Court and is due for trial on Jan. 6, 2026.
The arrest and images of a grandmother in an inflatable penis costume have generated national media attention, including being featured by late-night comedian Stephen Colbert.

About 10 people were detained by local police and ICE agents at roadside checkpoints on Nov. 11, according to organizers of the rally.
“They are at our kids’ sports events, they are at our children’s school," said Veronica Ayala, community organizer for the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice. "And then they are giving each other high fives while they are taking our family members away?”
After the arrests officers took the detainees to Jemison City Hall where they were held temporarily. The next day, residents protested the city’s collaboration with federal agents.
While Jemison does not have a formal collaboration agreement with ICE, a new state law, SB53, took effect in October, allowing local police to ask people their immigration status.

The measure now heads to President Donald Trump’s desk who was mentioned in newly leaked emails last week between Epstein and a reporter saying the president “knew about the girls,” according to the Associated Press.
Sen. Katie Britt said she hopes to have “justice for these individuals and that there is absolute accountability.”
Britt joined Sen. Tommy Tuberville who said he would support the effort to release the Epstein files to silence the “yelling” Democrats.
Britt and Tuberville have questioned why Democrats did not seek the release of the Epstein files when they were in power under former President Joe Biden’s leadership.

Hudson was also found guilty on five counts of production of child pornography and 75 counts of possession of child pornography.
District Attorney CJ Robinson said Hudson downloaded tagged images of child pornography on information sharing platforms. Those image downloads notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
NCMEC then coordinated with the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office to launch an investigation. Investigators found thousands of obscene images in Hudson’s possession.

“We’re going to be issuing dividends later on, somewhere prior to, you know, probably the middle of next year, a little bit later than that. Thousands of dollars for individuals of moderate income, middle income,” Trump said in remarks to reporters in the Oval Office.
Details on the payments are scarce, other than Trump stating that they would go to low- and moderate-income individuals, and “high-earners” would be excluded.
Congress would have to approve any payments, something Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stressed when speaking to Fox News. Any payments would “need legislation,” Bessent said, but added the checks “could go out.”
The cost of the payments could exceed $200B if checks are issued to individuals and not per U.S. household. That’s more than the government collected in tariffs in 2025 and about half t...
