Prosecutor Nick McLeland presented his opening statement, detailing the events of the day the girls disappeared and the evidence pointing to Richard Allen as the suspect. He alleged that Allen forced the girls off the Monon High Bridge and intended to harm them but was interrupted.
Defense attorney Andrew Baldwin countered McLeland's claims, suggesting a flawed investigation, the possibility of multiple killers, and the potential for evidence tampering. He also criticized the state for not testing DNA from family members against hair found at the crime scene.

On the long run, similar to the Riley Leonard touchdown, a bunch of down blocks, a seal block, and then you get a run in for a touchdown from Haynes King, the Georgia Tech quarterback, someone who Notre Dame is going to see later in the year. As you can see, this is very similar to what Notre Dame Notre Dame's going to have down block, down block, down block, just like Georgia Tech. There’s only one way to describe the start of the season. From a big road win to a huge upset, to a 59-point win. Sophomore Jeremiyah Love sums it up with one word.
“Shoot” Love said.
Pretty simple response when asked just about anything in the post-game after the win over Purdue.
“I mean, shoot last week we didn't play to our standard and shoot, we just got to play to play to our standard. And this week, we did. So, shoot,” Love added.
From 14 total points to against NIU, to 66 points in a blowout win over the Boilermakers.
“Just don't underestimate your opponent,” Love said.
“Shoot, if your opponent is like, projected to be like, not better than you. I mean, that should give you more motivation to just dominate them even more,” the Sophomore mentioned.
The dominance came at a cost.

NEW BUFFALO, Mich. -- The ice cream is as smooth as the cursive that created its name.
The famous ice cream shop, Oink's Dutch Treat, wouldn't be what it is today without its namesake.
Roger Vink purchased the shop in 1986. He was a teacher in New Buffalo for 25 years when he decided to invest in this ice cream shop.
He named it Oink's Dutch Treat and added windmills and pigs as the décor of choice.
"He always joked that the windmills went away, and the pigs stayed, which is true," shared store owner Mike Schimanski.
'Roger's last name was Vink. And somehow in high school he got the nickname Oink. I assume that cursive writing made the V look like an O and some teacher called him Oink or someone mispronounced his name, and it stuck."
Schimanski purchased the shop from Vink in 2020 and kept the pig theme alive. The collection that Vink worked on for 33 years.

An intruder entered Darlene's family house, just outside Argos, while her husband was at work, two little girls in the bathtub, a baby at home. As the man attacked their mom, Darlene screamed her last words to her girls-- to run.
Naked and wet, the girls ran the short distance to their grandparents, who called for help, but it was too late. Darlene's body was eventually found in the woods about six miles away.
"That day, things changed," Earl said. "All the sudden, you had people that were afraid, people that weren't letting their kids out to play."

It seems the defense tried to show Allen's incrimination was just a product of his psychosis yesterday, with his psychologist Dr. Minica Walla testifying that she had no doubt that Allen suffered a serious mental illness, including brief psychotic disorder during a four-month period in 2023, which coincides with when Allen started confessing to the murders.
The defense wanted those statements thrown out of the jury trial in Oct.

The Mammoth North Solar Project went online Tuesday as leaders flipped the symbolic switch to turn on the 400-megawatt solar farm in Starke County.
At a time when some communities fight what they call industrial solar, worried about the depletion of prime farmland, leaders with Doral Renewables, LLC say the land will still be cultivated using a method called "agrivoltaics."
"We're doing something very special with our solar project. We're bringing traditional farming back to these farm fields," said Nick Cohen, President and CEO of Doral. "We're bringing sheep and crops to the solar field, so we're integrating them."
Agrivoltaics is the term for the dual use of land for agriculture and solar. How does it work? Well, over the 13,000 acres of solar fields in the Mammoth project, only about 20 percent of that land has solar, the rest is green space.
