Kayla Wright was selected by the Indianapolis Colts to represent the team on stage at the 2024 NFL Draft this year.
Kayla and her family will travel to Detroit in two weeks, on an all-expenses paid trip.

Kayla went from not being allowed to participate in sports, to now being an integral part of multiple sports teams at school, including the school’s first ever flag football team.
The invitation from the Colts was a total surprise to Kayla, revealed at a school assembly with her teammates, other athletes and family....

Going into today, I had thought about what I was going to say when totality was over. I wrote some notes on my phone of some clever turns of phrase. But the first thing I did after totality was over was that I deleted all my notes.
Because when you see something so indescribably beautiful, words just don’t do it justice.
It was something truly unforgettable and more than one person over the last hour or so already had started planning their trips to the next one.
In the U.S., that’s not for another 20 years but one person asked another if they can book flights for Australia 2028 yet.
After the experience today, it's tempting to find out.

- ABC57: Rebuilding after Redlining

- Description
- Driving through South Bend on Jefferson Avenue, you may be charmed by the rows of historic homes. Drive a little further... and you’ll see a different view.
Boarded up windows, rundown houses, and junk in the yards.
It’s an example of how racist redlining practices still impact the city of South Bend today.
To determine the best ways to move forward, we must understand how we got here.
Redlining is a practice stretching all the way back to the 1930’s. It was used to deny minority families, mostly black, from building or buying homes in certain neighborhoods; thus, segregating neighbors by the color of their skin.
The federal government came up with a system to give some people government-insured mortgages to prevent foreclosures during the depression.
To decide who got the money, maps were created labeling the best neighborhoods as “ethnically homogeneous” and the worst as “hazardous” whe...

- Groundhog Day is classic holiday adapted by the U.S. when German immigrants brought their traditions over during the 18th and 19th centuries, but is their outlook over the next six weeks legitimate?
Unfortunately, the track record of the famous "Punxsutawney Phil" is less than 50% accurate.
While groundhogs like Phil and more locally, Potawatomi Poppy, are adorable mascots for one of the most unique ceremonies in our country, they are not the greatest forecasters in the world.
According to an estimation by the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), Phil is only 40% accurate over a 10-year period from 2009-2019 based on subsequent above/below average temperatures over the next six weeks that followed the holiday.
Still, every so often the groundhogs are on the right track, and that seems to be the case this year.
Because Potawatomi Poppy did not see her shadow, Spring will supposedly come earlier.

- With almost all of Michiana still having snow on the ground, a concept called "albedo" has been influencing daily temperatures.
Albedo is defined as the ratio of reflected flux density to incident flux density referenced to a specific surface.
In a practical and physical sense, albedo is the amount of sunlight reflected by a certain body or surface back into space.
Asphalt has the lowest surface albedo known, reflecting only three to four percent of sunlight on a clear day with no clouds.
