- Description
- A gripping look at mountain guiding and its deep roots in the legacy of Paul Petzoldt — founder of the National Outdoor Leadership School and North America’s oldest guide service, Exum. The film weaves the story of a modern climb gone wrong with the life of Petzoldt, a pioneer who scaled K2, set records on the Matterhorn, trained soldiers to fight Nazis in the Alps, and defined adventure itself.
Featuring today’s mountain guides alongside rare archival footage and breathtaking cinematography from Wyoming and France, this feature-length documentary explores risk, grit, mentorship, and the enduring call of the mountains. Produced by Wyoming PBS in association with Alpheus Media, A Life Outside is directed by Mat Hames.

- Description
- What has a couple of dozen wheels, is about a thousand miles long, breathes air, and has gravel and grit? We are a diverse group of novice cyclists that traveled down the Great Divide Mountain Biking Route from the top of Montana to Atlantic City, Wyoming. Along the way we participated in a scientific research project and tackled one of the longest backcountry bike routes in North America. One of the biggest hurdles in long-distance cycling is the rigor of the conditions. Braving the elements was taxing physically, but wore away at us emotionally as well. Coping with the reality of trail life was easiest when we found joy in the unpleasant moments, but sometimes, the realities of life can cloud the path we are on.

Gail shares her unique perspective on why "government is simply how a community manages itself" and outlines the ambitious goals of her e-learning platform. From understanding the specific duties of a county clerk to learning how to process aggressive campaign mailers, Gail provides practical tools for Wyomingites to become more effective, impactful citizens.
We dive deep into the data behind Wyoming’s primary elections, the impact of social media on civil discourse, and the vital importance of voting in local races—where decisions about snowplowing, public lands, and education are actually made.

- Visit ranches across the American West, where multigenerational families struggle to hold onto the land as predators return, real estate pressures rise, and a powerful conservation movement reshapes the landscape. With livelihoods on the line, ranchers, hunters, and rewilding advocates collide over wildlife, access, and the future of rural America.
From innovative grazing practices rebuilding the soil from the ground up, to grizzly bears threatening livelihoods, to out-of-state billionaires reshaping the land, the pressures on ranching families have never been greater. Skyrocketing land prices, volatile livestock markets, predator conflicts, and conservation land grabs are pushing families who have worked this land for generations to a breaking point.
We meet ranchers experimenting with regenerative agriculture and direct-to-consumer models, a fourth-generation farmer who ran for the Montana state legislature, and families wrestling with whether to sell — an...
