- The Fifth Global Review of Aid for Trade kicked off on 30 June at the World Trade Organization. The theme of the Review is "Reducing Trade Costs for Inclusive, Sustainable Growth". Director-General Roberto Azevêdo opened the event.
The event brings together trade and development ministers, other government officials, heads of multilateral and development agencies, representatives of the private sector and civil society to discuss how to reduce high trade costs, which act as a brake on the integration of many developing countries and least-developed countries (LDCs) into international trade.

- Between 1990 and 2010, one billion people were lifted out of poverty. Trade played a key role, helping to boost growth in developing countries. Economic growth alone will not be enough to end extreme poverty by 2030. Countries will need to embrace policies that make it easier to trade within and across borders, creating jobs and incomes for the poor, in order to use trade in achieving this goal. They will also need to tackle the constraints the poor face in benefiting from trade opportunities.

- Kazakhstan completes membership terms for WTO accession
WTO members adopted the package containing the terms of WTO membership of Kazakhstan at the final Working Party meeting on 22 June. Kazakhstan's Accession Package will be forwarded to the General Council for formal adoption by all 161 WTO members.

- WTO welcomes some 3,000 visitors to its “Merci Genève” Open Day
WTO staff and WTO members welcomed approximately 3,000 visitors to the “Merci Genève” Open Day on Sunday 14 June. Held as part of the WTO’s 20th anniversary activities, the event was an opportunity for the WTO to thank Geneva and its people for generously hosting the organization over the past 20 years.
