- Dozens of first responders were at the scene of a fire at a home on Waveland Street in Johnston Sunday evening, and police were also involved in the response.
While the Johnston Police Department and the Johnston Fire Department were unable to confirm whether the fire appeared to be suspicious, the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating, and a woman who appeared to be trying to enter the burned home was removed from the property by officers on the scene.
The fire began shortly before 7:30 pm, with heavy smoke coming from the home and significant damage to the right side.
