- Multimedia journalist Lauren Holloway tells us about an event Maryland Coastal Bays Program is putting together. MCBP, partnering with the Maryland Terrapin Working Group began their fifth annual Terrapin survey Tuesday afternoon.
According to researchers, the Diamondback Terrapin is Maryland's state reptile but its current population status in the coastal bays, as well as in the state of Maryland, is poorly understood.
The annual terrapin head count survey is held in the Chesapeake Bay and the Coastal Bays to better understand its status in the state. Counting terrapin heads in the water as they congregate for breeding, or other purposes is considered to be an effective way of monitoring population numbers.

For the past 25 years, Beechnut Farms has opened up their land to partner with University of Maryland Extension-Lower Shore. This event is part of the 4H Club.
During the three days this event is held, the farm hosts more than 3,000 children coming from all across the shore including students in pre-k through kindergarten and first grade. These students come from Talbot, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester County.

The Top Eliminator class elected to run to the 1000 ft instead of the regular 1/4 mile runs.

The building is made up of three shipping containers weighing 18,000 pounds and totaling just 640 square feet. This building was created using one 40-foot-by-8-foot container as well as two 20-foot-by-8-foot containers. These shipping containers have been out on the open seas for 8-10 years and tend to retire after a certain amount of trips. The containers come from Chesapeake Container Systems in Baltimore.
